Hi there,

I'm a jewellery designer based in the Midlands. After 18 months running my business and selling to shops and at fairs I am considering taking the plunge and getting a shop. I was thinking of somewhere maybe in worcestershire or south staffordshire, ideally a nice little town with some tourists.

As my jewellery is mainly small, although I make loads, there will probably be room for lots more even in a little shop. I would also like to diversify and offer customers more choice.

The type of things that would work well alongside my jewellery would be handmade accessories and bags, decorative home gifts, handmade soaps and toiletries, other jewellery of a different style (mine is mainly glass beaded) i.e. silver, delicate wedding jewellery, semi precious stones. Any other ideas welcome.

I'm thinking of a rental of about £10 per week and 10% commission on sales (to cover epos charges and wrapping etc.) I myself have been contacted by a local shop offering to rent space to me for £25 per week so I think my rental rate seems okay.

Midlands people are especially welcome but really anyone from any part of the country would be suitable so long as their products are quite small and easy to post!

Please message me or reply here to give feedback.

Anna

I think i'd be interested, but I also make jewellery using beads, so maybe thats too similar to your jewellery.

Thanks again for the interest.

Just thought I'd update you with some of my ideas and thoughts.

I am looking at areas such as bewdley in worcs, worcester, kinver etc. Quite nice areas that do get tourist visitors as well as locals.

As to how products would be displayed, I think small delicate items and jewellery would work well in glass display cabinets (such as the really good priced ones at IKEA which you may have seen!)

Bigger things like bags, home items etc. would be displayed on shelves and tables. So the £10 rental would apply to one glass cabinet or one shelving unit etc.

Keep sending me your comments and ideas and if anyone else is interested get in touch.

Hi,
I would be very interested... but I also make jewellery. I make dichroic glass & silver jewellery pieces. I also make glass giftware items such as bowls, candle holders, soap dishes...

I'm not sure if this clashes with your jewellery... but feel free to have a look around my website and let me know if your interested :)

Hi there

I would certainly be interested. I have been looking for outlets to sell my items and am happy to post my items to you for the shop as they are small. I make ceramic and glass bead jewellery and gifts. I also paint (see my blog below).

My local library are currently selling my items which have gone down well and I am going to craft shows in the summer but this would be an ideal opportunity.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks
Diane

Hi
I would be quite interested. I make soaps and bath bombs etc. Would this be the kind of other crafts you are looking for - if not don't worry but keep me posted.

This sounds like a good idea and I would be interested also. However, I make jewellery too. I use alot of vintage stones which I take from broken necklaces I purchase at auctions, charity shops and clean them up and restring them. I use stones/beads we dont see much of such as jet, carnival glass, alot of these beads date far back as 20s/30s. I also use semi precious stones, & like many of the other replies use glass and austrian crystal in abundance. Perhaps we should all form a co-operative! I wish you luck with your shop and think you are brave to take the jump - good luck and fingers crossed for you.
