Just did a jewellery party last night at a friends house. Think there were 18 to 20 people there and I made £225 (yay) Gave my friend 10% and a pendant that she loved which was valued at £5.95 and a phone charm, does that seem ok?. Am so thrilled and excited I've hardly slept all night! Selina

Well done chick!! Get making some more!! Parties are obviously in your favour at the minute and seeming theres no fairs around, i think this is the way to go. Iv only got 10% with no extras when iv had parties, so i think you did right. Lovely friends too!! Whens your next one booked then? ;)

Hi Lauralou, I just set up all my stuff and as her friends arrived and got a drink (loosens the purse strings) I chatted with them about my jewellery and explained its all hand made etc. I was in the dining room but there is a gig door between the lounge so people just wandered in and out chatting and buying which was great. A very relaxed atmosphere and as I sold stuff I restocked, also took some orders for bookmarks which I have only just started doing, so I only did 3 and they flew out the door! Selina

Hi Maria, both me and my friend totally forgot to mention to the customers that they could book a party (DOH) so she is going to ask them when she see's them if they had a nice evening etc! So hopefully might get another one, Selina

Lol!! typical, the money or the wine went to your head then!!

If people were impressed they'll ask anyway.

Marketing, Marketing, Marketing! :D Just do a leaflet and leave it on your table, or when they buy, put the leaflet in there bag or box. If you forget then it doesnt matter! Job done!!

Wow...that was good :mf:

I do hear people do well at home parties, and not only is it cost effective, but such good fun with a group of friends and their mates.

Bet you're looking forward to the next one

BIG WELL DONE to you and I can just imagine how you must be buzzing today (and probably for the rest of the week too!)

I think the party nights are a great idea, no stalls to pay for and I think the nice social atmosphere goes a long way to loosening the purse strings, as you say

Congrats! :)

Thanks everyone for your good wishes, thats what I like about this forum, everyone is genuinely happy for others. No hangover Claire, I had to drive home, shame! Definitely have a big smile and have just had a call from my friend to say how much she enjoyed herself, am I sure about the £20 I gave her! and can I do a bookmark for tomorrow night for someone who phoned her this morning! Now need to get busy and get some more stock, thank goodness I'm going to the States before my next big fair in June, Selina

Congratulations! :p I hope you get some more bookings out of it, by the sounds of your sales they liked your stuff!

Parties seem the way to go I have been told they're becoming really popular and am thinking of doing one myself, starting off with friends and family. I make my own jewellery as well but am finding it really hard to book into local craft fairs.

Any suggestions for organsing a jewellery party? I was thinking of hosting one myself and inviting friends along and doing a charity event. One of my dads friends is ill and I thought I could donate a % of my profit to Cancer Research. Do you think it would be too much hosting and selling the jewllery?

Any helpful hints would be gratefully received and congratulations again!

Well done! That's fantastic!

I have done 2 parties, one at home for orders only and one at a friend's house which was purchase only, the wine definitely helped too! Except i probably drank more than I should :p

Hi Karen, I've done 2 now, one at my house and then my friends. I printed the invites off the computer and bought a couple of bottles of wine and some nibbles so not much outlay. If you're doing it at your home a percentage to charity might be a nice idea, I gave 10% to my friend for hosting for me. I think its good to do it maybe before an event, in this case Mothers Day, my last one was the beginning of Dec, but hey Easter is coming up soon! Hope this helps, Selina

Well done Selina!!! That's great news, can image you're really chuffed :D. I have thought about doing parties before, but wasn;t sure if people would be interested in a 'mosaic party'. My friend makes jewellery so another option is to fo a joint party one day.

Thanks Selina

I've been thinkng about it for months so might just have to go and send out the invites so I can't back out, I am such a wimp! How much stock did you have with you? I don't want to take too much so they have too much choice but then I don't want them to feel like they haven't got a lot to choose from. I guess its the question of how long is a piece of string?!

Hi Karen, I had quite a large stock because my friend gave out 35 invites! I worked on the theory half the people would come and was probably right. I did find I was starting to run out of stuff by the end of the night, sold all my pendants, all the bookmarks and now have orders for 4 more. Lots of people bought more than one thing, I bet most people spent about £10 each but then some spent more. Tip Top, my friend was thrilled, she rang me yesterday to see if I was OK with giving her £20, told her of course, I still made £205 minus stock expenses. Also sold £35 in bracelets at work, so a prosperous week, Selina

That does sound like a very prosperous week, well done Selina :)

I've got a couple of provisional party bookings so if I'm half as successful as you've been I'll be on cloud nine!

It's really great to hear about people doing well with sales, it goes to prove that people really are interestred in buying handmade.
