hello, i have just joined and am posting this to help me get my head round how this forum works!, and to say hello :)
in a nutshell, i've worked for 11 years as a needlecraft designer for coats crafts uk, left last year due to relocating to the midlands from the north west, and am now in the process designing and making again, freelance.
i've also been craft blogging for nearly a year too.

Hello and (welcome)to the forum from me too. It's a friendly place and you will find when you are having a dry period when you are trying to design..this place can really help just to have a chat and get away from it! I know I do it regularly!!!
Enjoy your time here

well, thank you for all the lovely replies,
hi sam/incy wincy :D
i did notice you were a member here. i thought it might be useful to join as, after spending the last year, just playing about really with fabric, i now need to get my act together regarding the etsy shop, and am hoping that i'll be able to keep inspired, and also get advice on all the legal mumbo jumbo, you know, like registering as self employed, etc from others that have already tackled that side of it.
i did a talk yesterday at the local embroiderers guild, and one of the members there mentioned about a fabric place in leicester called 'kisco'?, when i googled it, this forum came up.
from what she told me about kisco, it sounds like a real aladins cave of fabric, must ring them and find out when they are open

There are lots of useful threads on here regarding tax/business link etc. But just shout out if you can't find something and someone will link you i'm sure. MZ (http://www.mumszone.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=10) has a great wahp section with lots of help on. So might also be worth a visit.
I've not been to Kisco yet, but its on my to do list. Never seem to get 5 mins off here atm! You will have to let me know what it's like when/if you go. ;)

we'll have to have a meet up and go fabric shopping together :D

That sounds like fun :p I do most of my fabric shopping online (ebay) as I don't have the time. Sometimes go to leicester market, but it's so dark and miserable there.
Love popping into John Lewis's when we are up Liverpool though :)
Horrible thing to say ... But I can't wait for Dd to start school so that I have more fabric shopping time :p
There are some fabric threads on here that give some good links to ebay suppliers. And there is a great felt thread. I will try hunt it out >>>

Hey - I see you are from Rutland - so am I. Have you seen the thread about a craft fair at Preston, Rutland at the end of August? It would be good to have someone doing something like you - I have had to call a halt to jewellery and cards and am looking for different crafts.
Welcome to the forum. I am fairly new to and just learning how everything works, but everyone is very welcoming.

i have seen the thread about the craft fair, but, to be honest, wouldn't be interested in having a stall. i've done craft fairs in the past and find them to be too much work for too little return.
i would, however, love to come along and have a look round, would be great to meet other crafters in this area. we've only lived here for 18 months, am from the north west originally.

I only just saw your reply - hope you will manage to get along to see us for the craft fair. I can understand your feelings about craft fairs, but I generally find them good fun and a good way of sharing info and meeting other people too. Hope to meet you.
