Right I'll try this again - I managed to shut the window down earlier without actually pressing submit - duh!
I've made a dress for a friends daughter and I need to hem it. I haven't got much experience with hemming and I don't want to mess up the dress which has turned out very well! Does anyone have any advice? It's cotton material by the way.
Thanks
Lynsey
i personaly would do a handstitched hem, iron under 1cm of fabric, then turn again and iron 2.5 cm. Hand sew the hem taking just a couple of threads each time from the front facing of the dress, HTH

Hand stitching option is definately a good way to go. If there is some top stitching on the dress already, you could machine stitch a narrow hem using a narrow hem foot. Or you could do a "blind stitch" if your machine has a blind stitch foot.
If its a full/circular skirt on the dress, I`d stitch all the way around the bottom, probably about 1.5cms up from the edge. Use a longer stitch length such as 4-4.5. By doing this you are slightly gathering in the fullness which will make it easier to hem. You won`t end up with big tucks then.

If you follow the above link it should take you to the Husqvarna Interactive Sewing Room, there`s some good advice on there.
Good Luck!
