Any ideas ?

I have just completed a counted cross stitch called Harvest Time by Mary Hickmott designs for my grandson. Now my other grandson wants a picture of the planets. No problem - I ordered one on-line from Stitch Direct (the chart only) called Celestial Spheres. Here's the crunch - I want to stitch it on either navy or black 16ct aida but I need a minimum piece of fabric of 53.4in x 9.1ins. As I have never used black before I don't want to buy a whole load of it just in case I never use the rest. Does anyone know of anywhere that sells off-cuts.
I have been in touch with Stitch Direct but other than giving me a list of suppliers that only sell by the metre they can't help.
As you can imagine I don't want a disappointed 10yr old on my hands.

I just typed '16ct aida' into the search box and got this;

Just type in the count you're looking for, and it will come up with whatever colours there are in 16ct.
