View Full Version : Worry over Christmas

We have had a bit of a worry over christmas this year. A couple of days before christmas while hubby was at work he was feeling a bit tired he closed his eyes for a second and when he opened them again his sight in his right eye had practically gone! He was seen straight away at the hospital and they say he has a dark patch at the back of his eye which has effected his vision but they dont know what it is, could be a hemorrage (although they think they have ruled that out though not 100% sure) Cancer or infection. Needless to say we are hoping it will be infection. Wont know until he gets a scan in the next couple of weeks. His white blood cell count is up which could mean infection but that could be down to his bad skin which is always infected, so it makes it more difficutlt for them to tell.
His sight has nt got any better over the last few days and the strain on his other eye is giving him headaches but other than that he seems fine.
He says its like he has suddenly gne very very short sighted in that eye instantly.
anyway fingers crossed. Has anyone else had this as we are hearing about other people we know that it has happened to, usually is a hemmorage!

That is most definitely worrying. I have my fingers well and truly crossed that it is nothing more serious than an infection which can be dealt with fairly quickly and fairly thoroughly.
My OH has lost a fair bit of sight in one eye - not as suddenly as your OH's - and at one point it got worse because of an infection. However, the infection was cleared up with a course of steroids and hasn't returned.
Sending good vibes to you both.

Sounds like what happened to my friends dad about 6 months ago, can't remember exactly what the diagnosis was but the same thing happened, he suddenly lost the sight in one eye, he ended up going to Addenbrooks for an operation which corrected it, then a little while later he lost the sight in his other eye, so had the same op for that.I don't think he's fully regained the sight yet, the op was quite involved and took a lot out of him, but at least there's light at the end of the tunnel.Hope hubby gets sorted soon.Hugs to you both..

I have nothing to add to the comments already made above but I wanted to send you and your hubby my best wishes. I know what a worry it is when one of you is ill and you're not sure what's going on.

....Himself & I are thinking of you both. We only had a gallstone to deal with, but that was worry enough.
I'm sure everthing will turn out just fine and you'll both be hugely relieved, but I know the waiting is horrible. Maybe the way to look at it is this; if the medicos suspected anything really serious you wouldn't have been put on a waiting list for a brain scan, it would have been the same day.
Keep your chins up, and as Incy said, we're here for you.
Hugs & hugs & hugs,

Thanks for your kind words everybody. Fingers crossed that everything will be ok. Doesnt seem to be getting any worse and he cant make his mind up if it is improving slightly. Hopefully we will hear about him going for a scan soon. He probably would have got it sooner if it wasnt over christmas!

What a nightmare to have to go through! I think one of the hardest bits is the 'not knowing', so, I hope your hubby gets a diagnosis as soon as possible in order that the correct treatment can begin.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Hope the eye improves and the docs get to the bottom of the cause of it. Fingers crossed it will be sorted out easily.
I think we'd all like to give you a group hug... http://www.deephousepage.com/smilies/grouphug.gif
