...Well, I'm gobsmacked!

Yesterday we did a craft fair at Cheddar. It was so quiet we nearly all fell sleep.

I couldn't quite figure out why. Until a little ol' biddie stopped to buy a few things from me. She then told me that the church up the road had a Christmas Bazaar & Lunch thingy going, but that it had finished at 1.30pm. She went on to say, with a chuckle, that the ladies on 'the committee' had been systematically removing all of our posters!!!

I was totally stunned. Lost for words, then unspeakably angry. This 'do' finished at 1.30....surely they could have left folk the chance to visit our fair afterwards??

Himself got into the car and drove around Cheddar and all of the places where we'd displayed or put up laminated posters. Out of 124, he found five...it must have been organised properly by this 'committee'. The only ones they'd missed were in shops.

I am still really really incredibly p'd off by this. I've written to the minister at the church concerned as I think, if this is Christian spirit, then it sucks. It sucks big time.

The only reason I can come up with is the fact that our fair was in the 'other' church hall.....

Thankfully, most of us made our table money back at least. Dire as it was I took almost £60 and the DD, who manned my cake stall, took about £50. Needless to say I'm not booking Cheddar as a venue again!

Jules, that is just DREADFUL!!!! Although it doesn't surprise me. People can be very devious, and just because people are 'christians' does not mean they all show this in their nature.

Let us know what the minister's response is won't you?

...I will - if I get one. I'd be willing to bet he's terrified of them, these committee members are all very 'Hyacinth Bucket' aren't they?

I did consider the paper. However, our posters are actually illegal. Most local and parish councils are also against them. I could leave myself open to prosecution here.

We put them up at our own risk, but we do make sure that wherever we use them, they are taken down immediately after the event and dispose of them properly.

That is terrible, very sneaky if you ask me. Especially when people put a lot of time effort and money into these fairs.

what a bunch of old witches!!

I think this sums it up well.

What a terrible thing to do, it is not exactly in the spirit of the church, but strangely it doesn't surprise me.

How awlful... Some people are so petty. That just goes to show, that us crafters are nice and caring people who would never do that.
Nothing wrong with a bit of good competition.

Well i'm a great believer in 'What goes around...comes around!'

keep us informed.

....Call 999 was my sister's suggestion on Saturday when we first found out.

She said phone the fire brigade and get their church hall evacuated, then they'll all troop along to us!

I have to admit to being tempted......;):p

Posted my letter to the methodist minister recorded delivery this morning!

People who do things like that make my blood boil!! Petty and narrow-minded. Good luck with your letter, Jules, and let us know how you get on!

I used to work in a convent so nothing about religious folk would surprise me.
I could tell you all some tales that would make your hair curl.

In the village where I live, if anyone decides to organise a sale or coffee morning etc they always do it on the morning of the farmers market. Sometimes there is very bad planning and two events are organised for the same day. I've seen some hillarious attempts at sabatage... people putting posters on top of other peoples, removing posters and once grafitti saying cancelled!

The things some people will do doesn't suprise me at all - they were obviously worried about the competition though or they wouldn't have resorted to taking the posters down.
