Hi all, I'm new to these forums and have my first questions,

I want to put extra rivets on some jeans and figured there was too much I didn't know.

How many types of rivets ae there and do they require a different tool out them on? The 2 main types of rivets I've seen are what I call the:

"The flush fit" this when you look at it looks like a circle within a circle and looks to be pushed on with the denim inbetween the parts.

"The Cybal" looks like a miniture Cybal with a Nipple that sticks out from the center. Not sure how these are put on, maybe a push fitting again.

Are there hand tools I can use and are is there a stanardised size for rivets? I spoke to some people and they use Pneumatic tools for this, I always thought those tools pulled and not pushed, can someone clear this up a little for me please?

thanks,

I have to admit that I honestly don't have a clue but welcome to the forum anyway! Out of curiosity, why do you want more rivets on jeans?

customisation projects, rivets are just part of it. It just happens that I don't know how that works.

The jeans manufacturers put these on with a rivet gun run on compressed air.

I would think the nearest thing you could get, domestically, is an eyelet setter.

This is a toolkit available from haberdashers shops, oddly enough, to set eyelets.

It consists of a punch, either operated by hand or hammered, to make a hole in the fabric. The eyelet, a selection of which is usually included in the kit, is then offered to the hole: you turn the fabric over, put the back of the eyelet on and hammer again. I'm not sure if this tool could be used for rivets.

The alternative is a tool which does the whole operation in one, also available from haberdashers and department stores like House of Fraser.

Don't forget that rivets on jeans play havoc with leather soft furnishings....
