Hi ya,

Just felt the need to share this, I am new to this forum and hoping I could find some people that can relate to this.

I cant stop buying beads!! The thing is the addiction is taking over, I am currently off sick at the moment and on a VERY low wage because of it. I should really not be buying things like beads and jewellery making supplies, because I have my bills to pay, which my current sickness salary can barely cover! What do I do? Please tell me there are others out there that sacrafice important things like visa bills and food bills for buying beads!?
I'm just hoping that I can sell some of my jewellery soon, otherwise I will have to bead myself a little shelter

Can we start a support group for fellow addicts? ;)

Yours a fellow addict
xx

There's a secret to controlling the buying habit - only go for the best quality stuff, not just because they look pretty! You'll find you buy less, but what you buy will be worth selling! :D

Ah yes Beadsage, I would actually like to hold you responsible for my spend last night! :p
I was reading your thread about beads direct, and I thought I have not been on there, so took a nose and well a basket full later I typed in the dreaded card details! lol. Oh well... excited about my package arriving! Got a couple of fairs coming up so fingers crossed these nice beads will reap benefits!

Hahahaha isn't that always the problem when you get interested in something you enjoy! It could be worse, you could be addicted to chocolate or something :)

You could always do what the Catholics do....A few Hail Marys together with an Our Father...That will get rid of the black spots on your soul... and you can start all over again.. YEH!!!!!!

Hmmm you could be onto something there! lol

Only thing is i'm not catholic, where does that leave me? Do I need to convert? Maybe then I could have my swarovski rosary, do you think thats a good enough reason to become catholic? :D

I'm feeling a little better about my spending the last couple of days had a very successful jewellery evening, and made over £100! (very chuffed!).
So what will I being tomorrow? You guessed it.... buying more beads! Well I have to restock! ;)

P.s. very glad to see I am not alone!

:D Me too! I have spent some serious amounts of money in last few years on beads and related stuff - tools, books, fancy boxes to keep all said beads in. Not sold nearly enough jewellery to cover costs.

Have got stacks of random beads now that I just don't know what to do with! Am trying my hand at bead weaving to try and use some of them up...

am being pretty strict with myself now as all spare cash has to go towards paying for the wedding. Am sure I'll be back in full bead buying mode the day after it though :mf:

When I'm pretty skint but 'feel the need' to buy beads I got into the charity shops - you can find some lovely strings of beads and cut them off, there really cheap too

I am another addict but I buy card making supplies. Can't stop myself. I love all the gorgeous things and then find that it is so hard to use them as I don't want to part with them. Doing my first Craft Fair in April so I am hoping to get a bit of the money back. Darling hubby says I will bankrupt him sooner or late. Ah well, at least I am happy with my hobby. I feel as if I have found my place in life. I could sit making cards all day every day. When one turns out especially nice I am amazed that I have made it myself!!!! Sue xx:mf:

I was wondering if you are still addicted and if you managed to break the habit can you tell me how?

Oh wow reading this thread has been bead therapy!

I too have found that buying good quality beads even if a little more expensive does curb your spending (well a bit anyway!) and I'm more careful about what I buy and it's stopped me doing "Oh that's nice" and just getting it. I just wish I'd read this before I ended up with a whole heap of seed beads I now won't use because they're not uniform enough for bead weaving.

On the plus side it's really great to have a good selection of beads you can choose from to do something with when you choose...... or sometimes just to get out, play with and look at.

I am also addicted to beads, especially gemstones, each bead has its own unique character and sometimes they have little rainbows in them. My favourite gemstone is tiger eye which reputedly is good for stress and anxiety,
it has a comforting warm glow and is earthy and the same time. I could go on for hours but then I wouldn't have time to go bead shopping. Do I need help?

i m usually a cardmaker but just dabbling in beads made my first necklace and earings for myself this morning but after looking at all your bead site i can see how you can get addicted i will be making them for myself and friends and family but mainly me as i love costume jewelry the only trouble is storing it and the fact you can only wear so much at once unless you want to lool like youve been to mardi grae

You have to start selling your stuff.

Organise a jewellery party, the first one I did I made over £500. Check other websites for prices, make sure you add cost in for beads, design and the time to make. Use up all your beads to make pieces instead of buying new ones...work with what you ahve.

Tell all your friends, neighbours and family...get family to bring a bottle of wine each to keep cost down and go for it!!! It takes a bit of planning but you could make a lot of money.

Good luck

Reading all your messages has been therapy in itself, just knowing that me & my addiction are not alone!!;)

I would love to here more about jewellery parties, how many did you invite etc

Going back to an earlier post...... can a priest take the nasty red colour away from my bank statements.....

You're certainly not alone when it comes to being addicted to beads....let face it they're so hard to resist. The only answer is to start selling your work.

It's very profitable to do parties as there is minimal outlay, and there's also craft fairs as well where you could sell.

Good luck
