Ive just found something called fusible fibres which look like well, erm fibres, which can then be ironed onto fabric to give it a textured feel/look.
Id love to use this but looks quite expensive.
Can you think of a better substitute as I wont be needing it to iron onto anything, maybe a vellum/textured paper in silver and/or gold.

felting seems to be all the rage at the moment and the fibres used for that might be the sort of thing you are looking for.
