.....I have my beady eye on a solid (925) silver torque bangle on eBay. The design is plain and simple and just perfect for what I want it for. What I want it for is Himself's birthday next month.

Now, the seller has said it's in very good condition, but you can tell it's been worn.

What I need to know is....can I buff it to remove any signs of wear? Obviously I can't repair deep scratches etc....but is it possible to do it up at home and what tools would I need?

If all else fails, I can pass it over to Himself's BinL who's a jeweller, but I'd quite like to give it a go myself.

....does that just polish, or will it help remove signs of wear? I need to make this torque look as good as new.

....the BinL is actually a nice bloke. Not a bint at all.....SinL can be a bit of one though.

I was busy yesterday so forgot to bid on the torque, and was cross with myself. This morning it's been relisted and is now at a much reduced price!

Every cloud has a silver lining!:):p:D

Jules did you win the auction?

Is the silver matt or shiny?

Generally to remove signs of wear and buff silver you basically have to rub it with something a little course then polish it up to a high shine again.

Although emery or wet & dry paper is good, Smergel Strips are much better. They are sticky back strips similar to emery only white coloured, and you stick them onto a stick (you can cut one from wood, mdf etc) and you buff away with first the coarser one, then the finer one, and keep going until you get quite a nice shine. However this will not give a really high polish, to do that you need to polish with Rouge, either manually (can take a long time) or using a small mop attachment to a dremel (search for Polishing Kit on Cookson).

I hope you won the bangle, and I hope this helps!
