Have any of you ever had your work in a gallery? There is a lovely gallery in a town near me that I think my work would look really good in (gotta be confident!) Do you think I should approach the owner? That would be via email - too chicken to go into these places yet! Is it worth a shot? Any advic on what to say/how to approach her? Is it best if I go in and visit - only looked at their website so far!

Thanks!

Go in!!

Ask if whoever you're speaking to is the owner:

"Hi there - are you the owner?"
"Yes, that's me"
"I was just wondering if you accept work from local artists?"
"Mmmm, sometimes we do. What sort of thing is it you produce?"
Have some samples ready.

Be confident and smilie, they're probably used to being approached by people.

The worst s/he can say is "no, on yer bike" in which case you wouldn't want your stuff in there anyway!

Whatever happens, at least you'll have tried. You don't get anything in this life unless you ask.

Email is quite inpersonal and they can choose to ignore it. They have to give you a response when you're stood in front of them.

That's my opinion anyway!

GO FOR IT!

Oooohhhhhh!!! Hebden Bridge eh? I used to drive through there every day when I worked in Halifax and lived in Rochdale!

They get a lot of tourists there so it would really be worth a try:D

I had a meeting today with the managing director of a place that has 1 million visitors a year - after that I can walk into a gallery, no problem ;)

Used to love spending Sunday afternoons in Botany Bay when I lived in Yorkshire. Wish we had somewhere like that round here.

Swirly - the Gallery sounds like a great idea, JBJB is right there's nothing like the human approach, you can really put across your enthusiasm that way. Good luck

It was Ossy Mills but they were looking for people to rent spaces in their new designer/maker centre and I wouldn't, with my crafts anyway, be able to make the weekly rent let alone make a profit too. Plus you have to have someone there 7 days a week and I can't do that - it just wasn't for me but I'm glad I went along to have a chat. Maybe one day :)

Ahhh, so that's why everything is a little bit overpriced?!!;)

At least you tried so you won't kick yourself in the future and wonder, what if...:)

You should definitely go in, you never know until you try!! But don't be put off if they say no, it might only mean that your work would be better in a differnt gallery.

I've only had weavings on display at art galleries, and they approached me, but it is definitely worth the buzz of seeing it there if you can make it happen!
