Questions about Etsy Please

As stated before, I have an account with Etsy but never done anything with it.......now with christmas on they way, I'm thinking of seeing what I can list there..........just need to ask a couple of questions please to those of you that already use it.

First off, I notice the prices are all in american dollars........do you put the equivalent in british pounds and it automatically changes it for you, or do you have to work that one out for yourself!

Second, for those of you that have sold on there, is it mostely from UK or USA, or a good mixture of both that you get custom from?

Third, is it better than EBay?

Forth........errr, thinking now :D, maybe I dont' have a forth one....LOL........but if you can give me any advice on Etsy that would be great.

I'm no expert but I will try and answer your questions! To get my prices I work out what I want for it in pounds and then convert it by using a currency converter - this one is very good. www.xe.com The converter is at the bottom of the page.

If you are going to sell on Etsy then I would have a Flickr account too - put all your photo's in there and join lots of crafty groups too - that's where some of my sales have come from. In regards to where I've sent things to the majority has been this country but some the others have been to America.

I personally think it is better than Ebay because Ebay has lots of tat on it that pertains to be handmade but it isn't - and when people see the ridiculous prices they can pay on Ebay then they don't want to pay what the item is worth on Etsy. If you already sell on Ebay then I would stick to it for a while but some people have told me that the fee's on Ebay are quite high.

There is a lot of stuff on Etsy so my other piece of advice would be to get a few items into your shop to start with - say 5-6 and then list something every day/every other day. This will keep your work 'visible' and it won't slip down the listings too much. Also try to post in the forums often because then people will know who you are and are more likely to have a look at your shop etc.
