Right I've had a week and a half of it, with the little one screaming all the time, more than likely teething...
Anyways its put me behind a little.
I have my first wedding fair tomorrow.
I have all the designs I want for the table, and I have a velvet binder with other designs in etc...
My problem is samples, I dont have many made up or none at all for particular designs, esp the scrolls etc as they cost alot of money...
So my idea was to state that I can make a sample to order, with a colour of your choice (as I'm taking my colour card swatches with me)
Do you think that will pass as okay?
I mean its going to have to, but hopefully if someone does want a sample and I dont have one, then they can order it.
From a very stressed and tired mummy x

Oh dear! Kids eh?!
I think that you will be fine - there is another thread somewhere about wedding fair and samples but can't think off top of my head...
Personnally, if I liked what you were showing I'd ask if you could do and I could get a sample in the colours I wanted. That way they are made more to order and more personalised, plus it saves having loads of colours out when 99% of them will not be what is wanted and I think can put you off sometimes... if you see what I mean;)
You could say that you can offer free samples which would compromise this that and the other for a limited period and take their email address and what they are interested in and colours etc. Then when you get home you can contact them to see if they are still interested and then sort out what they want.
Thus, less stress for you now and the work should be a little more spread out!
Hope it goes well for you - let us know!:D

Hi Deezkatz
I also have a wedding fayre tommorow, hence why I am replying to this at 2a.m. Ive just about finished putting all my stuff together.
I hope yours goes well, I know its probably too late to give you advice about samples, as if your anything like me you won't have time to look at forums in the morning but I wouldn't worry too much.
This is my second fayre so not exactly an expert but I take a few made up samples with me to give as samples but I also suggest to the couple that I can make up a sample and personalise the insert with their details. Most couples seem to like this and from a sales point of view I think it helps because they get excited at seeing what their invitations will look like.
Also don't worry if you don't get any orders on the day, I didn't at the last one but then several came in over the next few weeks.
Good luck, I hope you have a successful day, Id better go to bed now else no one will come near my stand cos Ill look so horrendous.

Hi Paula and everyone
The wedding fair went well today, I handed out a few samples today and have some to make up and post out this week.
The response was really good which was great.
So hopefully my email and phone will start getting busy....
I have another wedding fair this sunday coming too, so I certainly what to expect.
I'd printed my own leaflets with details regarding the website, invites, discounts etc and I ran out of those (over 100) so i'll defo print more of them off for next week.
Thanks for all your comments.
Hope your fair went well Paula. Let us know x

Hi, my fair went pretty well. It was quite a small one, I think the organisers said 70 brides attended, but as there was only about a dozen stalls it felt quite busy. I didn't have huge expectations for this one, the main reason I did it was that the hotel is 2 mins from my house.
I had a lot of serious enquiries i.e. the ones asking me specific questions about when they would need to place their order or wanting quotes etc. Ive just checked my website statistics and the figures are up from normal as well.
I think it helped as I was the only stationer there, there was another stationer booked who didn't show up and hadn't contacted the organisers. That happened at the last wedding fair I went to as well. Having paid over a hundred pound for a stand I personally would turn up even if I was on my last legs (or bribe someone to do it for me!).
I'm glad your fair went well deekatz, lets hope we are both watching the orders come in over the next few weeks, good luck with your next one as well.
I've got another fair in two weeks, its a much bigger one this time generally several hundred brides. The organisers of this one have a two page advertisement / advertorial in 3 of the local papers and all exhibitors have their own mini advert on the page, so I am expecting to be busy for that one.

Thanks for letting us know how your craft fair went Paula. It all helps towards those of us trying to get out first one done and nice to hear from all of you that have or are doing them.
Fingers crossed that you begin to get orders coming in very soon from the fair!
Have to admit, there is no way I would not turn up after paying £100 either.
Pauline :)

I posted a couple of weeks ago about my first wedding fair and have booked to do another one mid October. My advice would be to have lots of price lists, general information and contact details/business cards that people can take away. I also offered free personalised samples to briddes and agree that they really like the idea of getting samples sent out in their colour scheme and will their details printed - it makes it seem real for them! Be careful to try and suss out who is semi serious and who is just browing as you could find yourself making samples for time wasters. I have just finished all my samples from my first fair and already have 2 couples who are talking to me further so fingers crossed they will order.
I have only just started but from what I've seen already if you are in the stationery business, wedding fairs seem to be crucial in terms of targeetting customers and I am certainly going to sign up for a few more!

Glad to hear they went well and thanks for the advice!
Can I just ask you all that did wedding fairs, were there any cake topper makers there?
I really want to get started next year doing them, but I am totally new to them, how to start and what to expect.
