Creating a website banner

I really want to make one for my site but havent got a clue how. Has anybody got any tips on how to go about making one?

Well I always use Photoshop to make mine, is there anything specific you could do with tips on?

They do seem quite good on that website, but I do think they are overpriced a little. If you like I could have a play for you? I wouldn't charge unless you are pleased with anything of course.
