I'm not a candle maker, but I do enjoy playing about with wax.

Where can I buy cheap wax pellets?

I melt them down in an old saucepan, then add scented oils from Sensory Perfection or Longwycke. I use an old baking tray lined with silicone paper to set the wax in a thin layer, and once it's set the broken up wax is then used in scented things that I sew.

Yesterday I melted four ordinary cheap white candles. So, I don't need anything really expensive but I would like to use the proper stuff in case the candles affect the scents.

Probably best using the proper stuff cause the cheap candles from the likes of Asda etc don't scent the candle all the way through they just make a plain wax candle and do a final dip in scented wax so you only get a very very thin layer of scent on the candle (that's why the shop ones never smell after you first light them cause you burn through the thin layer quickly and all you got is a plan unscented blob of wax burning).

I use Candlelights in Manchester. I have a problem with getting to the web site for some reason but if you go onto my site and look under the links section you will see another section for Candles Resources, you can click on the link for Candlelights and it will take you there.

Sensory Perfection also do waxes but I think they are slightly more expensive. I think Jo does to some paraffin wax but has more Soy.

Cheers Jules.

I don't use scented candles, just plain ones for the wax.

My favourite scent is from Sensory Perfection....it's called Pine & Berries. When my new bottle arrived, I got a free sample of Cherry Clove Chutney which is really yummy....got to send for some of that!

I've got the berries and pine too - love that. They scent manufacturers are evil - they keep brining out all these lovely smells and I have promised I am not buying any more until I need to get the christmas stock (which will be any day now though)

Cheers.

You have to buy some of the Cherry Clove Chutney...it's so good I was lucky to stop myself from dipping my pinky in the bottle to taste it....!!

Actually, I think I might have a play with that today...make up a bag of wax bits for pillows etc. The house will smell great too!

Sounds like a good recommendation to try - I'll give it a whirl next time I order from her... Thanks!

Re the prices on the soy - SP and the SK are about the same once the SK add on the postage and vat - Jo's prices all include the shipping costs...

Having just got hit for £28 on my latest oils I do sometimes wonder whether importing them really does make that much of a saving...

It's great if they come through without charges - but makes a heck of a difference if they apply the duty - especially with the handling charges having increased too...
