I was just wondering if anyone uses this for jewelry making? For amyone whoi doesnt know its silver clay which can be shaped and moulded the same as polymer clay but once it has been fired it turns into pure silver and can be hallmarked. Im doing a 3 day course on it in November and I cant wait! Once I have done the second of the courses I can then teach the subject if I wanted too. I just want to start making things out of it NOW! :D

I take it you're talking about PMC? It's beginning to take over the web, and there is some very nice stuff being made! As usual on jewellery, the Americans are streets ahead of us, there are loads of PMC and metalworkers forums in the US. ;)

I've seen some really great things made from PMC. I was looking at a course the other day, but it's a pipe dream at the moment..... along with lampworking, pottery and knitting (I had a left handed mother who tried but failed to teach me!!!)
If only there were more hours in a day and more money in my wallet!

Yes PMC, im looking forward to trying something new. I really want to get into jewelry making so I am having a play around with fimo at the mo. I have managed to make one pair of earrings so far but with everything else I want to make there are not enough hours in the day!
Hi Caketopper,
I do PMC stuff along with all my beaded work and really love it. I did my second certificate earlier in the year, and now hold classes at my home. If you are doing your certificates in Amersham, ask them about hallmarking - you can count as a part time student and they can get a good deal if you register at the London Assay office. I don't know if any other places offer this, but Amersham certainly did back in the Spring.
I am sure you will enjoy your course in November but in the meantime if you have any burning queries will be happy to help if I can.

I've made quite a few things with PMC, although I'm no expert! I've also bought some Art Clay Silver but didn't like it, I find PMC3 the best to work with. Get some Liver of Sulphur to patinate it after you've fired it and you can get some really good effects.
I haven't made anything for ages due to my sewing commitments but I do miss it. Mmmmmm, now where is my PMC kit?

I thought PMC and art clay silver was the same thing? shows you how much I know! I havent even seen the stuff yet so Im a complete beginning until my induction to it on the 12th Oct. Im tempted to go out a buy a book on it but Im going to wait. I could have a whole craft library with the books I own! :D

I've got a fantiastic book called "Creative Metal Clay Jewelry" by CeCe Wire. Have a look on Amazon. It's got loads of tips, info and ideas.
PMC stands for Precious Metal Clay, but is also the brand name of the Mitsubishi product. Art Clay Silver is another brand name, and is made by a rival firm. The two product ranges are very similar, and as far as I know (though i haven't tested it) you can mix the two in the same piece, providing you keep to the highest firing temperature of the two. Art Clay Silver Slow Drying Clay, for example, is virtually the same as PMC3.
There are loads of really good books - my favourite at the moment is Metal Clay for Beaders.
Anyway, hope the above info helps.

Hi there - I'm happy to find other metal clay fans. I'm Emma - and I am a fully qualified teacher of Art Clay Silver and run weekly courses at The Little Bead Shop in Edinburgh. I'll be teaching the certifictaed courses from Spring time next year. I also make and sell my own metal clay jewellery in several galleries and design fairs around Scotland.
I find PMC and Art Clay Silver to be very similar to work with, but if you find that you prefer PMC to Art CLay then try the Art Clay Slow Dry. I often compare them to coke and pepsi - both being very similar but everyone has their own preference!!
I'll have to pop back on and post some photos of some of my jewellery - and would love to see other work too!! I'd forgotten all about this forum (I post on lampworking forums as I make lampwork beads) - but am glad I found it again!!
