Tax return and stock

I am a newbie to this site and wondered if anyone could tell me if I have to do a stock take as I only sew and sell things now and then as a hobby although I am a good honest gal and do a Tax Return each year - only have a few bits and pieces left after the 2009/10 return and someone has told me that I need to declare my stock - are they correct and do I just declare the value of the materials or the made up items or both?

Why not give the tax office a ring? I've always found them very helpful when you want to do the right thing.
