Working with Hessian

Hi All
I need some help making a wedding present for a friend.
I want to give them a picture for their new house and love the look of canvases with Hessian.
I've seen them before with writing and simple pictures and am wondering
a) how you put hessian onto a canvas
b) what I should use to fraw on it (strengthening gel and acrylics or something?)

Hmm, not too sure but I think with natural things like hessian youd need to wash it first as if it comes in contact with any moisture(like paint)it will shrink, so best to wash/shrink it first then it will be easier to work with.
