I plan to try a few different things in 2012 and turns out I will need a staple gun (any excuse for a new tool :D)... It doesn't need to be a whizz bang heavy duty gizmo and I just wondered if anyone can recommend one that is reasonably priced and easy for someone with arthritis to operate...

I think it depends on what you are using it for.
I made fabric memo boards a couple of years ago so bought a basic 9.99 staple gun from a DIY store to staple the fabric to the board and ended up putting it to one side after one day and buying a 30 electric one and it was well worth the extra money. Much easier to work with.

Are the staples going to be visible?

Have you thought about using a hammer tacker? ( just use like a hammer :D )

May be easier than a staple gun.
