View Full Version : My Pet Portraits

Just realised that I've done quite a few of these, so I thought I'd post them up. The dog on the blue sofa, Bella, is the most recent portrait, and sadly she passed away last year, she was a friend's dog. Only two cats, dogs certainly seem to be popular subjects, might be a dog-owner thing? It would be nice to paint more animals, I'll have to see if I can get some advertising done locally.

They are lovely, what medium to you use? I like the cat one the most as I think the shadow works really well, gives it depth.

Ah, forgot to add that! I use oils or acrylics, depending on how much time I've got; the back collie and the cat are in oil paints, I think everything else is in acrylics but I'd have to check on the spaniels one. I tend to paint on either stretched canvas or canvas board, but I'd love to branch out into pub signs although they're probably all printed now.

They are really good - the first one looks not unlike my own dog!

Those are all gorgeous. It's quite obvious that they are specific animals and each has their own character. You are very talented.
Can't draw or paint for toffee!

Thankyou all, going to see if my vet will be nice enough to put up a poster advertising my work once I've got one made. :)

They are lovely, I agree the cat one has a lot of depth to it and I especially like the last one of Zippy!
I have a few of my bandanas in a training centre local to me, there is a lady there who does pet portraits in pastel. They have her work on the walls. You should approach somewhere similar or ask to put in groomers/petshops etc?
