Hello all,
I'm not sure if this is the correct place, so forgive me if I should have posted elsewhere! I'd like to start recycling and upcycling. I have collected a few bits and pieces from charity shops and have plenty of ideas. but, I have some old fur cushion covers that I was about to send to the charity shop. They've served their purpose for me as cushion covers, but has anyone any ideas on what I could do with them?
Many many thanks,
Fiona

Hi and welcome to the boards.
Recycling and upcycling is an enormous bag of different stuff. I have been thinking and plotting and planning for almost a year now.
What sort of things are you interested in making? If you pop over to my blog you'll see how far I have got - books on how to have been reviewed and very little has been made because I have so many ideas and so little time.
I have an ideas book, well it is a .notebook file that I keep pictures links and ideas in. It has been invaluable in helping me avoid actually making :) but it has helped me narrow down the sort of thing I want to do.
Try a quick google, there are loads of sites with ideas, and it is fun seeing the wide variety of skills, ideas and saleable / gift ideas other people's junk can make.
I hope that helped. I'm sure that a few others will be in soon, they are a really friendly lot round here :D

if they are in a good condition, turn them into handbags....or purses?

Doh! I misread your post - sorry!
Furry cushion covers.... I understand that fur trim is back, so what about a furry cuffs for gloves and hat or scarf? You could make them detachable.....

Just what I was going to suggest. I was next to a stall last month selling fur cuffs - for wrists, ankles/tops of boots, round heads/like hats with no tops and scarves with no end/a circle you twist in two are it looks like a collar. she was selling them for £12 to £35 and doing a roaring trade.
Then my ideas go -
fur handbags,
patch different patterned fur together and make a fur waist coat or jacket or coat,
and what I did yonks ago - make my kids ewok costumes for a fancy dress parade :p

You could also, if enough of the fur matches, make a fun fake "taxidermy" animal rug - just cut it in a rough animal shape, firmly attach a couple of teddy bear eyes and a plastic nose, and make some ears to go where they would be seen on a real animal head. They can be backed with felt or hessian.
