Hi,
I wasn't sure whether to post in this section or the wooden section, but hopefully someone here can help me...

Ive decided to try painting wooden shapes and I wondered how on earth do people paint perfect polkadots on wooden hearts etc...? I can't for the life of me work out how to do it, I imagine stencils would be messy and easy to do wrong.

Can anyone help please? Also are acrylic paints the best to use?

Thanks x

Oooh dipping a hair grip in the paint or a cotton bud, you would have to do the perfection spacing by eye though, otherwise what about a home made stamp? Cotton buds (or anything circular) fastened to card perfectly spaced apart..

Hi Kaleigh,

Thanks for the reply, Im not as worried about the spacing, its getting perfect circles that Im worried about lol. I think cotton buds might leave a texture? I could try a hair grip though.
Big thank you for helping

Try the end of a paintbrush handle dipped into paint and used as a stamp. If you have a paintbrush with a flattened handle end, even better (or cut the pointy wooden end off a little to make a flat 'stamp')

If you get the right amount of paint it should work, I also agree with the paintbrush. Anything small and rounded basically!! Hairgrips will make cute teeny dots compared to slightly bigger ones from cotton buds

I use the end of wooden meat skewer for my lead Hooks - I got a pack of 100 for a pound and they are pointed one end and flat on the other. It also means that I can use a different skewer for each colour and dont have to worry about washing them. I've use the pointing end of a cocktail stick to make small pin prick dots too.

I used to have a tool for painting dots on finger nails that had round metal ends in different sizes. look up nail art tools to find it.
