View Full Version : Registering as self employed - business name
I am just about to fill in the self assessment form online - but it is asking for my business name. I'm not registered as a company, but do have a website address and am branding as Freckles-Designs. Do I put this as my business name?

As self employed sole trader your business name is your trading as name so Freckles Designs is what you use. If you have a business bank account you will find the bank puts your name as the account holder T/A whatever. Hope that helps

And I was told you can put what you like as your trading name (try not to pick Walt Disney or MacDonalds if you want a quiet life) but you must have your real name, and address and contact details on your paperwork eg letters, invoices, business cards etc.

Yes, as a sole trader, you are your business and the business is you. I changed my business name from when I registered with HMRI and completing my assessment, though I did note that on the form.
Thanks guys - have completed the online registration form and put the business name as my web address/name used for branding
