Mobile accessories

I want to start making mobiles (the sort that hang from the ceiling) with my cupcakes on, but I've no idea about what you need to attach the hanging-bits too. Ideally I'd like to use a hoop, but if it means I have to use dowling and fix them together in a cross, I won't be bothered to do it. Can you buy them ready made and just add the hanging bits to them?

You should just be able to do them from a hoop as long as you fix them so that they are all equally spaced and don't move. I have no idea though whether you can buy them already made - sorry!
