View Full Version : What a fabulous idea
I'm already looking forward to Christmas (its only 6 months away) and recently started thinking about my Christmas Craft - with 2 kids under 2 I have to be well prepared!
I want to make them an advent calender each which has little pockets to put little presents in - any idea how I could make one?

Wow - thats very organised thinking !!
Regarding how to make an advent calender with pockets; my mum has made them for the gran kids by using a large piece of felt seamed at the top and bottom (with a thin wooden pole through the top seam for hanging) and then stitched little felt pockets over the top (with shapes & sequin things stuck on each pocket). Hope that makes sense ;-)
Thanks for that Lili, I think I need to venture into town and see if they have any shops where I can buy felt!
We've not long moved into the area so dont really know what craft shops are around!
I have to be organised as I never know how long it will take for me to get things done, my little girl is still only 4 months so takes up a lot of time, and ofcourse I have my toddler too so only get to do crafts when they are asleep!:D

Alex, You mentioned before about your girls clothes - why not use the pockets from her dresses to make the slots for you to put little bits of chocolate and things in ?

I think you can buy kits to make material advent calanders.
I have one that my mum made me, a square of material with pockets that are numbered 1-24 and have nice festive piccies on that are big enough to put the little celebrations choccies in!! It has a wooden pole through the top and some coloured rope to hang it up. I use it every year!!

What a lovely idea. Something your kids can treasure for years to come.

Or, if feeling brave, what about a green felt tree?
Shaped as a triangle but with 4 sides (so it will stand up) and the numbers of the month on little pockets.
You then don't need to knock holes in the walls :D and it can go on the mantlepiece so the kids can't get the choccies!!
Hope this helps!:D

I'd post a pic of them but they're packed away in the loft and I dare not ask the husband to get them......:slap:
They have some cardboard inside to make them more standy-upy but they have a really nice blanket stitch round the edge.
Very festive!! :D

Hi,
I made 1 about 4 years ago. I was pretty useless at crafting then so I bought a kit from QVC from a company called Bucilla, it's a bit pricy but really easy instructions. A lot of beads and sequins and it took about 4 months to make , however I've seen the same pattern in shops sold for about £20 made up and only about 6 beads in all - mine has about 600.
Anyway it is well admired, very hard wearing and most important I made it myself:D
I dont think you can get then from qvc now but you can definately buy them online and from ebay.
good luck
