How serious are they thet you have to be a parent???
Could you imagine if we set up a site like that and said anyone who is a parent couldn't join???????
Makes you think dosen't it.:playball:

I think the philosophy behind it is that those stay at home parents have somewhere to sell the stuff they make - I think anyway!! I've only just joined so don't quote me on it or anything!

Whooops - started something here!! No I don't think you have to be a stay at home parent. Maybe work from home parent is better??

I could argue about this for weeks but i'm not going to as i don't want to fall out with anyone i love you all, whether you have added to the human race or not:D

Hee hee :D If you visit the site they may have more info on why they chose that philosophy. As I said earlier I've only just joined so I know nothing!

ok, time out!
i emailed them as a non-parent and they said...
"The remit is not just that you are a parent or a work at home one at that. We accept applications from new designers and take pride in promoting the ‘fresh’ people on the giftware market. We currently have some big names on Tuggle, Oromono, Samantha Holmes and Lilac coast are examples of a selection that are not stay at home parents. Tuggle is an outlet for new businesses to promote and showcase their goods in a commission free environment. Its true that with PR we focus greatly on the work at home angle as it gives us very strong leverage with journalists. "
icecreamgirl
20-06-2007, 09:08 PM
That makes me feel better, so does that mean that journalists wouldn't like me as i'm not a parent?:D

:)I'm glad thats cleared up. It makes much better sense now. The wahp thing is just an angle, there are some lovely bits and pieces on there, doesn't really matter whether they're made by parents or not.

Exactly.
It seems it's not common knowledge that anyone can join in, but when pushed about it they will admit it so as not to offend.
Otherwise it could get sticky for them.
Bet they wouldnt ask if i was a parent before they took my money though.
Okay Okay i'm shutting up now:p
well I gave them my details yesterday and have had an acknowledgement email but I haven't heard anything else other than they are reviewing my website.
Do they usually take a while to get back to you?

They usually get back quite quickly, but because the new site has just launched they could be fairly busy.

If you say that you were recommended by someone who is already a seller then they get some money :D - not hinting or anything!!

Dear Peter,
Thank you for your recent contact, I would like to thank you for your interest.
I am sorry to inform that at this point we will not be offering your business a slot on Tuggle, For the reason that it is not perfectly aligned with ours.
We would like to wish you every success with your venture for the future.

Thanks, yes I do have my own website too, but to apply for Tuggle I went onto their website and emailed them from there. I think there is a section on there to contact them.

I think they have had a busy day - you've sold a painting, chocolate girl sold some chocs and I've sold a chicken doorstop!! Just got to figure out which one i've sold because they stupidly all have the same title (doh) and they are all still showing up on Tuggle. I hope I don't sell anymore just yet as I only have a limited run of the fabric (being vintage) and not knowing which chicken it is........
Also - for any other Tugglers out there - do we get the buyers email address at all? It's not in the spread sheet I've been sent - is there a way we can see it in our editing bit?

Swirly, you could always use the red light system for turning them off if it gets to manic or you need to source more fabric, I think that system is a great idea, coz I'm worried if it gets busy I might never see my children.

Do you think being so busy working from home that you don't get to see your children would go against their ethos of being a stay at home parent?
I can't see anywhere to get the e-mail address of the customer a bit anoying it would be nice to answer their queeries directly, I'll check and get back to you Swirly :p

:mf: Congrats Swirly, Colourart & Chocolate girl for getting some sales ;)
Love the flowerpots Sarah! Yummy!!!
I've been accepted so shall get right on it.........!
Bedtime? What bedtime?
Just bumping this thread....
Is it really £185 to start selling?
swirlyarts
22-06-2007, 06:46 PM
Yeah it is. It relies on up front payments rather than a fees for listing and on completion of sale (Etsy do this). I got in before it went up to that amount so didn't pay as much. They do a good team behind them though re media and PR so hopefully it will live up to expectations!
I got accepted but I can't afford that kind of money at the moment.
Maybe when I've got some money behind me, but I'd still have to sell a lot on there before I started making any money from it.

Do they have to have it in one lump sum, or, could you pay it off in instalments?

Yep, I'm on. I've even ordered some choccys for my friend's birthday so looking forward to someone ordering a Little Snuggler!
Well I've borrowed the joining fee from the Bank of Mum and I'm now on.
Go to www.tuggle.co.uk (http://www.tuggle.co.uk) and do a search for "personalised" and you'll see some of my stuff.
Hope I get a sale soon to show mum it was worth it!
OMG!!! Just got my first order!!!

Hmmm - it would be interesting to find out what "perfectly aligned" means. Haven't read their T&Cs yet (which I should do really), but if it were me rejecting people, I wouldn't be giving a reason. Can they prove that everyone else that they have accepted is "perfectly aligned"? If not, then they could be open to all sorts of problems.

Hmmm, guess I shouldn't get too excited then! No emails today, just as well actually as I need to order more packaging materials.
I see Swirly's chickens are being described as a "hot product" so at least one of us from the forum is doing well.

You should get excited:mf: , a sale is a sale and its still early. I was excited when I got a sale from Tuggle.
Give it time ... I know they're actively marketing the website. I had my third order yesterday so people are looking :)

Hi, thanks for the encouragement Colourart - you're right, a sale is a sale! I'm going to put lots more of my "in stock" mirrors on tuggle very soon. I had been keeping hold of them as I was doing a craft fair at the end of June but that's now over and I've plenty left (yeah, only sold one, and it was a little one at that, waiting till Christmas now before venturing back out into the craft fair fun!)
