You clicked because you wanted to know what a Poi Poi is right? I imagine most people here would know how to make a basic Pom Pom (if you don't this project will show you how) but perhaps a Poi is a mystery. This Sunday 6th Feb, is New Zealand National Day. A Poi is the Maori word for 'ball on a card'. Maori people are indigenous to New Zealand, they spin the Poi as part of their traditonal dances. I'm not a Kiwi, but my friend is. She suggested this would be good for my next blog post...

Full instructions, plus a video of traditional dancing using the Poi, available on my blog..

We looked into the history of poi. They were used as training 'weapons' for 'resting' warriors. But they didn't use pompoms. :D They used heavy balls. Don't half hurt if you accidently bash yourself with one in full swing, but not as much as dropping a fire poi on your jeans. "It's OK mum. It's cold fire." :mf:
