Hello there i am new to this board, my daughter has got a competition running at school where she has to fill a jar, prizes for most imaginativ, colorful and unusual. I am stuck for ideas other than the usual things like sand, sweets etc which everyone tends to do.
Any ideas would be great
Thanks x:)

would take a lot, but how about paper punch shapes - use all sorts of shapes and colours then!
or hair bobbles
or wax crayons
or small paper or silk flowers.........

I have to say the obvious really dont I..... BEADS !! ;)
or, after outing my obsession and trying to think of some off the wall ideas; you could try buttons, daisy flower heads, cookie crisp cereals, cherries, raspberries, pegs, pasta shells....

Thanks for the ideas last year i did a little beach with sand and used a drinks umbrella as the parasol was quite nice. I wanted to do something a bit different this year as everyone uses beads, sand and sweets.
I like the idea of daisy flower heads would look pretty, also am wondering about a glitter jar, but does anyone know how to keep the glitter afloat without having to shake it?
Not very good am i!:mf:

ribbons and fibres
pot pouri
Dog biscuits (the colourful shape ones)
cotton wool balls
coco pops
Sorry can't think of anything really unusual.

In the same sort of theme as you beach last year why not a garden? A layer of garden dirt.. which you could place small pebbles in to it that could be seen through the glass to give interest to the bottom half of the jar and then use paper punched flowers in lots of colours on cocktail sticks and use a twig from the garden to make a little tree.. not sure if this any good to you as an idea.

What about layers of different colour jams....
