Yipppppeee,
I've signed up for some sewing classes starting tonight and i'm sooooooo excited. I have been sewing for at least 20 years although never had any training, just self taught, so tonight my eldest daughter and myself are heading out to start a 6 week course of sewing lessons. I'm so excited about picking up techniques that i have always struggled with, ie zips so look out for some fab products coming your way.

Sorry was just so excited so thought i would share my joy;););););););)

Am really jealous, even though you have done things for years, there is always something new that you learn.

Have lots of fun.

Totally jealous also.
I'm the same as you.
Always sewn but would actually love to learn techniques. Unfortunately the day job always gets in the way of signing up for classes and havent seen any advertised at night.
Have fun and let us know how you get on :)

ooo lots of fun! I'd love to go on a course and learn how I am supposed to do it, rather than my own little merry way.

Have lots of fun!

It's amazing isn't it? My French granny (I had an English one too) sewed all her life, making everyone's clothes and dressing ups etc. She went on a tailoring course when she was 60 and said she learnt soooooooooooo much she hadn't known.

Angel - please share the zip secrets. I can't do them for toffee (I can by hand, but not on the machine. There's an order of doing things, isn't there?)

Quick update on last nights sewing class. I had sooooooo much fun and although the lesson was for 1.5 hours i ended up making a flap over bag. Very impressed with myself. I will upload pictures later. The lessons are basically a chance for me to learn tips and anything that i don't understand. Have just booked my sewing machine in for a service. It sounds silly but something i learnt last night was to follow the seam allowance (which i never knew was on the machine)
I had such alot of fun and am so excited for next week now

Oooh that sounds fab. Wish there was one near me. I have had a sewing machine for nearly a year now and just haven't used it, really need to get onto a course..................... Oh well, carry on with the hand sewing for now...........

Well that was me inspired then. I went straight off and had a proper look on the internet only to find there are courses fairly close to me. They are £100.00 odd - does that sound about right? Too much for me at the moment (and foreseeable future) anyway but the good thing is they run the courses throughout the year so I can try and save up a bit and do it later in the year.

Thanks Angelcake for inspiring me to make use of my sewing machine.

Kerry thats fab that your inspired. I pay £6.00 a lesson for mine and although they are for 6 weeks they basically run for however long you want to attend. I found my lessons through a lady who attended one of the craft fairs at christmas although she advertises her lessons locally she also advertises on netmums so maybe local sites like that would be worth checking out. I'm currently making a purse to go with the bag i made last night (although i keep having to stop cause the baby wants my attention)
Godd luck kerry

Have you looked to see if there are any sewing instruction DVDs? that would be cheaper than £100.....if you look at some of the sewing supplies sites like Jaycotts they have them. Or you might even be able to borrow one from your library for a pound or two. Not the same as a class I know but would get you started with your machine.
