I'm in the middle of making more chickens but my sewing machine is playing up - the thread keeps coming out of the needle mid way through sewing. Whats going wrong - and what can I do to rectify it - swearing at it doesn't help!

...your upper tension. It might have such a grip of the thread that it's trapping it. Have you tried having a look between the tension discs? There might be snapped thread caught there or a fluff build up.
You could try looking for the website for your machine. the Brother site for mine is quite good.
I wish I could help more

Oooh - the sewing forum - I might have a lookie there! I think I've figured it out. My MIL was just on the phone to me and she has the same type of machine - she has to make sure that the thread in the bobbin and on the top are the same - mine weren't. She also suggested tension so I had a play about and it seems (cross fingers) to have worked!
I'll let you know if it doesn't  :sm:

Well touch wood it seems to have worked - once Tara has gone down for her snooze I'm off to make more - hopefully pictures later!
