I posted this into the Introductions forum and thought to move it here.

I wonder if anyone can identify the piece of pottery in the photo for me. It was on sale at an auction a while back and was described as Islamic in the catalogue. I lost the bidding as it started to climb out of my range (£80). There was only one other bidder but I felt something quite strong about this piece even though it might seem quite ordinary. It was in perfect condition and perhaps missing a lid. Unfortunately I didn't know where it might be from. Maybe Moorish. I suspected the colours were brighter under the yellowy surface film. H12" x D9".

15540

If anyone has any idea of where this pattern might originate or its age. The sound when tapping with my finger nails sounded like pottery. Maybe Terra Cotta. The raised patterned surface is very symetrical round the entire surface. The base was painted matt black with no special markings.

It looks a bit like Royal Doulton but I may be compleeeetely wrong and I would have thought it would have had a marking on the bottom...don't know in other words, but had a guess as I'm sure I've seen something like this, in maybe bluey colours, before =) Something like this?
