View Full Version : Raku burner with automatic changeover valve?

Hi everyone,

I would like to add an automatic changeover valve to connect two propane bottles to my outdoor Raku kiln. I want to do this so that I can completely empty one gas bottle without fear of the bottle running out mid way through a firing.

My concern is that nearly all of the automatic changeover valves are 'low pressure'. They only have an output pressure of 37mbar although they can delivery 4kg/hr

Does this low pressure mean my burner just won't work as it needs higher pressure? Anyone tried this?
Thanks for any advice.
Bob

Hi Bob - Afraid I can't answer the technical stuff about the changeover valve but the way I do it is to have two gas bottles connected via a 'Y' adaptor to the regulator and manually do the switch over when one runs out. Its usually pretty apparent that this is about to happen and assumes that you don't just leave the kiln for any length of time.
