I always used to champion Epson but after my last one only lasted about 4 months, got a HP Photosmart C7280, printed about 300 invitations, acceptance cards and order of service last year with no problems. Also used to print on fabric to use in my designs and again no problem. So atm would recommend an HP but this can change, they all have good points and bad.

Well, I don't actually make cards but do print out on card for the models I make. I also need a printer for larger backgrounds and use them for printing out my business cards too. I've always had a brother DCP115C ( no longer current but there are others). And that's never let me down. I bought one other brother A3 printers a couple of months ago - MFC 5890CN. This prints both A3 and A4(though it only advertises being able to fax/copy/scan on A4) The quality is excellent - ok the printer is a fair amount bigger than others. But the main saving for me is that I can get replacement cartridges - it uses 4 which gives better colour quality. The whole set costs be under £40 from Cartridge World if I recyle old cartidges. And as regards affecting any warranty through Brother for not using their cartidges, Cartridge World offer their own warranty cover. I probably print out around 50 A3 sheets a month and the last set lasted 2 months.
You have the options of being able to print on different materials and at different print qualities.

I have a brother mfc6490cw which is a wireless a3 all in one I picked up in a sale in staples last year, I chose it because when I applied for free photo samples from various printer companies a few dont offer free samples but of the ones that do the brother was good quaility and the provided me with an a3 sample wheread other samples I received was standard photo size. There is a slight issue with vista and the wireless driver where the printer appears to be offline but that can be resolved by unplugging the printer and replugging it.
I also have a HP Photosmart which was on offer in Staples lol with the right paper it prints stunning photos etc.
Both printers have their good points, have to be more careful what photopaper is used in the brother as it doesnt like the cheaper photopaper produces a wonderful comic effect photo lol
Both have individual ink cartridges which I think is a big must.
