Well, I bought this pile of scrap & damaged & offcut veg-tan leather a little while back, so I've been having a bash at leatherwork.

I made these pieces into a panelled belt...

Different, huh?

The lacing is brown cording, and the buckle is from a naffed belt I found at a charity shop, all fastened with two-part rivets. I sold it at the first pagan event I took it to!

I still have about four one-piece belts to pyro on, though - some narrow, some wide... just waiting for inspiration to strike!

These are great :) did you wax finish them?

No shock to hear you sold it quickly. I can see these would be really popular :)

Hey, thanks to both of you!

Yup, it's polished with high-beeswax leather polish. I ran out of Renapur and bought some polish off EBay, seduced by the description of beeswax and jojoba wax and whatnot, and the bit that says "smells wonderful". It works a treat, but the description should have read "smells wonderful, as long as you're very fond indeed of the delicate aroma of turps"! :)

Yeah there are a lot of fun aroma's in leather finishes lol!

I am also not surprised you sold it quickly. I love all the Celtic designs they are so intricate. You must have the patience of a saint. (I was gonna say Jobe but not sure of the spelling. lol)

I haven't posted for ages (or that often to be honest) but wow, it does look great!
My husband and I recently went to the largest Medieval Festival here in Australia.
I don't doubt your belt would have sold very quickly at this festival too!

I wish I had your skills (I've never had a go at leather work).
Actually I wish you lived closer, so I could pay you for lessons :p

I love this sort of work. How do you cope with the smell of burning leather though?

Hey, thank you everyone! It was fun to make, as I've not done that before...

I love events like medieval festivals - nice people, a really fun atmosphere, and perfect for a stall with pyrographed dragons & knotwork & such, of course!

I like celtic knots, though they do take a while to do, and there's endless opportunities to mess it all up with crossing over in the wrong place, too. :)

I don't mind the smell of burning leather, to be honest - the veg-tan stuff doesn't smell really bad. If you burn some and it really stinks, then maybe it's not veg-tan? And regular leather's not good stuff to burn...

Ooh that's lovely! You've done a really good job on it.
