It's a definite! This is the castle where Liz Hurley got married recently. The weekend promises to be very busy as there are other things going on there too. I'm really hoping this will be a feather in our cap, as Sudeley asked us to do this event!

It's a two day event, you can chose to do one or both days. Booking for one day is £60.00, but for two days it's £100.00. Electricity is included, but chairs aren't.

Because it's on the lawns, tables can safely remain set up overnight should you wish. Times are yet to be confirmed, but I think it's about 10.30 - 11am to about 5pm.

It's a 6ft by 2ft table in a huge marquee on the Falconry lawn. Bring your own chairs though...oddly they charge £2 for a chair for the day! We're looking for up to 30 stalls, and it would be great if anyone wants to demonstrate. Sudeley are asking the local tv people down to see us, with a view to getting the reporter to try their hand at various crafts!

Info packs will be available shortly.

hiya jules. this sounds good. sudeley's a lovely venue and they are good at promoting their events. i could only do one day and the saturday would be best for me.

so table under cover with electricity is included but no chairs, right?

what's the fair called?

£60 is a lot more than i usually pay but i think this might be worth it, especially if it's a sunny day (fingers crossed).

i'm keen to do it. send me the info when it's ready :)

also, would art be ok too? i have a friend who paints funky, contemporary canvases who i am sure would be interested as well. she attends the cotswold craft market with me.

Ow Jules,

I wish I was a bit nearer but I think Glasgow is a bit too far to come.

Good luck I know you'll have a brilliant day.

All the best.

I think Art should be included....fused glass is surely an art as well as a craft?

Chairs are £2 each per day...I think that's quite amusing, no idea why. Although, to be fair, I think they hire them in.

I haven't thought of a title, but Designer Arts & Crafts has to come into it somewhere.....I'll poner the title today at work, and hopefully write the info packs this weekend.

For those of you who live in the West, and who may have seen the sad news on television this evening;

I have contacted Sudeley and have been informed that this incident was nothing to do with Sudeley Castle staff or contractors.

The marquee company in question was hired by the BBC and are not the team that we will be using for our craft fair in July. Although in Sudeley grounds, this event was not organised by MediaEden who deal with events organised by Sudeley Castle, it was BBC Homes & Antiques.

What happened Jules?

A guy who worked for the marquee company hired by the BBC was electrocuted whilst dismantling a marquee. I don't know how exactly, except that a metal pole he was carrying came into contact with an overhead power cable.

I just hope it doesn't put crafters off booking our fair, as it wasn't anything to do with Sudeley Castle.

......Thankfully it won't affect our Craft Fair at all.

We were at Sudeley yesterday and loved it! It's a damned near perfect location.

We've discovered that the Falconry Lawn is right next to the visitor centre & carpark AND we'll be the first thing they see when they get to Sudeley, which is great!

You need to move to the north west Jules - we need someone up here who can arrange good craft fairs up here! Burnley house prices are cheap :mf:

Hear Hear!!! I'm near Blackburn - about 15 miles from Burnley and we need something good up here! All the ones I've been in contact with seem not to be about 'real crafters' but more with the mass produced stuff. :nopity:

Sudeley are promoting this one and I know they are very good at promotion. I expect it will be added to their website when they're ready. I know they check the forum......;)

I'm really looking forward to Sudeley. I didn't want to leave after we visited last week - it sounds silly, but Sudeley is a very peaceful but compelling place. I just felt so relaxed there, no idea why, I just did.

Eee!
Classy joint! ;)
But yes, anything I hear I'll post on here - who knows, I may get brave and start a new thread!! I've been doing some research but nothing fruitfull as yet although there is a Craft Fair at Townley Hall late November - I think I found it on their website (do a google search) but put me off a little as entry to Craft Fair is free with normal entry (I think £3.50  )

Had a very pants day at work :horse: so shall be making some little cute Sizzix fishing men to help my mind unwind!

Yesterday I received an email from the events team at Sudeley Castle. It seems that owing to the Health & Safety Executive's directive about events mentioned above, we are having to move our marquee over to the next field. Apple Tree Craft Fairs should have been informed of this decision weeks ago, but the chaos caused by HSE's snap decision at Sudeley meant that we were accidentally overlooked whilst sooner events were dealt with. As an organiser, I'm willing to bet it was an absolute nightmare!:o

This is disappointing news, but nowhere near as bad as it seems. The marquee is now going to be in the field known as Home Field. This is just behind the original site. It's next to the new restaurant, the Textile exhibitions and the new dungeon exhibition due to open this month.

There are plenty of other interests going on at Sudeley on our weekend, which should mean very high visitor numbers. The Clematis weekend is on the same weekend although I believe it was rumoured to have been moved, it actually hasn't.

There will be 'Blues in the Ruins' on the evening of 21st, and also that weekend is the Winchcombe Celebration in the village, and Sudeley are running a shuttle bus, ferrying people from the village to the castle so it should be quite a busy weekend for all sorts of interesting reasons. I rather like the feeling of being part of all this and I hope I can get time to wander about and see everything else going on.

The change in field shouldn't effect the Craft Fair in any way. Although we are not in such a prominent position, we will still be unmissable! There will be lots of signs etc from all parts of the Castle to us - visitors will be constantly reminded of where we are, although I fail to see how anyone can miss a 70ft by 40ft bright white marquee! This going to be a great weekend - it's still top of my personal events calendar.

I felt that I had to tell everyone of these changes. If you decide that you no longer want to have a space at the Craft Fair, then that is entirely your decision which I will respect, and I will refund your full payment. I do hope that everyone will want stay with us, but I wanted to give everyone the choice. Personally, I could swing for the HSE, they really do take things far too far!!

I have emailed all the crafters who've booked, but wanted everyone else who might be thinking about booking to be up to speed on this.

PM me if you have any questions or concerns.

oh hell...mammoth post - sorry!

I didn't watch it but there was a write up about it in todays Guardian. I didn't realise that the house is closed to the public.

neither did i (realise it was closed). i went years ago and only went to the gardens as the house was so expensive. it's a gorgeous location though :D

...I couldn't not watch.

I'm not sure what conclusions to come to, apart from the fact that there are two sides to every story and documentary makers only ever portray the side that will make the best viewing.....

I'd read quite a few articles about the prog beforehand, so it wasn't as unfavourable as I thought it might have been.

Sudeley still remains my personal favourite event for this summer. As a company ATCF aren't making any money from this event, in fact we'll be out of pocket. I just desperately want to do it as I love the venue.
