I can hardly believe that this time next week my little girl will be 1!!! http://planetsmilies.net/party-smiley-540.gif

Anyway, I'm baking her a birthday cake next week, but am not sure how to decorate it. I don't want to do anything too fancy, but am putting in a little bit of effort. So far I've decided I'm probably doing a chocolate victoria sponge, and will decorate the top with something, but don't know what!

All suggestions appreciated. She loves chocolate, animals and being outdoors. I am rubbishy at sugar craft.....

perhaps a simple cartoon style animal then! I knew her birthday was coming up as I remember your due date being my birthday (13th)

Already! The last year has flown by. Hope she has a lovely birthday. You could create a simple outdoor scene with coloured icing - some grass, flowers, blue sky and sunshine :)

I'm not making a big enough cake for the whole forum to get a piece - unless you want a bit the size of a pixel.... I'll let you have a virtual slice by posting a photo!! And yes the last 12 months have flown by. She's already tried out a bit of walking.

oh that's it, as soon as they start walking they are no longer babies! it all goes far too quickly.

I find it very amusing that she has only tried out her walking skills at home and is hiding them from the nursery nurses. I sometimes look back at photos of her and am surprised how tiny she was!!

For my daughter's 1st birthday I just bought some dolly mixtures and other jelly sweets and decorated the top of the cake with them randomly and then used some to spell out her name. It was simple to do and looked quite sweet (sorry, bad joke...).

I was going to suggest chocolate buttons. I have seen a receipe whereby they made a hedgehog out of the buttons. If I can find it I will post it for you.

I would go for a choc cake covered with green sugarpaste, you can stipple it with a pan scourer, you know the green and yellow ones you buy, use a new one lol and the green side to give it a bit of texture. Then add some flowers and maybe simple butterfly shapes. Pink is always a good colour with girls I find well esp my daughter who is 4.

Look forward to the pics x

Edit just seen you are in Coventry too 'waves hello'

Wow! A 1ner! You lucky thing! My baby girl is 16 on Monday, so I'm kind of at the opposite end to you now ;)

I just found the pic I took of the cake I made for her for her 1st Birthday, and I know how fast the years fly by, but HONESTLY, I remember this like it was yesterday
and it will stay in my heart for all eternity! Does that sound too much? I love my daughter so much x

I hope this pic comes out and I did it right (I'm still learning!) but if it doesn't, I've also uploaded it to my albums. And I agree, pink is always a winner!

When my brother and I were younger my mum used to put plastic animals (the kind you get in the ELC and places like that) on top of the cake and then decorate the rest of the cake in a scene to match the animals. That way we got a slice of cake and some new toys at the end of it!

Nothing wrong at all, we will probably eat it all that quick you'd have to apparate or use the flue network or maybe use a port key to get to my house with the speed required from Lincs! My husband and daughter are like a pair of gannets when it comes to food (especially chocolate and cake!)

Oh yes Erin is one on 28th. Hasn't time flown ?
She too is taking steps around the house, Don't they look so cute. All wobbly like Nana on a Saturday night hehehe!
I was going to make a cake too, but DD has gone and bought one Gasp!
Never mind I will make some cupcakes for the stand I made for Amy's 5th birthday. (If I didn't throw it out) memory fails me yet again grrr! I think it will have to be altered to a Night garden theme for Erin, She is in love with Iggle Piggle.
Bet I have to start over eh?
Good luck with the cake darl xxx

I used to make this one for my sons when they were small:
