Just wondering if anyone else likes crochet. I have been crocheting for years. I especially like fillet crochet. Interested to know if anyone else is interested also. My newest project is a burgundy and cream colored block afghan. So far it is coming along nicely. I'll probably post pictures and directions on my website when I am done.

i am just well in the learning process, a friend taught me donkeys years ago but i could only go in a circle lol, i have tried again, and i am now making a blanket with hundreds if squares, about 1/4 of the way to a double bed sized lol, its one of those things i pick up when i can't be bothered to sort other things out, or i do at work in my lunch half hour lol

i can only do the one stitch so far, but would love to learn more.

Hi all

I crochet (and knit). I make crochet bags and throws to sell, and also make toys from time to time. I'm quite an impatient person which is one reason why I love crochet - I can see it growing very quickly!

Hi
I crochet too. For now I am only making stuffed toys or cute little things. I tried crochetting a bikini once, it came out all right but I didn't use the right type of cotton (meaning that the bikini weighed a ton once wet, not a very nice sight!!) :p

I love to crochet, I also knit, weave, spin etc, so learning to crochet was invaluable to me as a new way to use my handspun!

I think I prefer it over knitting at times, it's easier to handle big items definately!

I have been full of cold and feeling miserable all weekend

So I have finally taught myself to crochet!!! (well the basic stitches) and I'm loving it!

Have knitted from a young age, (not very well!) but never got into crochet? Anyway, I think its great! and really like the way you feel more involved with the process than with knitting. (or is that just me?)

I will have to post a picture of my first attempt when I'm finished ;) ... am trying to make a little purse for Emma

I've tried and tried to learn to crochet - I even bought myself an idiot's guide (obviously not suitable for an idiot like me!), I can do chains then it all goes pear shaped:sm:

I can knit basic stuff like scarves and gloves but crochet has beaten me;)

I crochet as well. My favourite things to make are baby outfits (which usually end up on my daughter's dolls), frilly baby hats, peaked caps (which I ended up having to make for the other 6 girls in my daughter's class after she told them all I would make them one) and scarves.

I do plan on trying my hand at bags in the near future.

I've noticed that crocheted goods seem to be making a real comeback in the shops and I've found myself looking at the prices in disbelief when I think of how much I could make it myself for :o

I crochet too!! All I have attempted are square blankets (triple stitch) which come out lovely, & im major addicted to it!!
A couple of days ago mum bought me a book showing different stitches for hats, blankets, bags etc so I am looking forward to sitting down & having a good read!!

I love to crochet. Half the tools and twice the speed of knitting.

And soooooooooooo many different techniques to learn.

I also love crocheting and only really ever did smallish projects like hats and small bags, but then I came across a book called crochet so fine and absolutely fell in love with the patterns inside it. I find that sometimes crochet can be a little too 'boxy' for want of a better word, but in this book, everything looked as though it just hung beautifully. I've almost finished the butterfly type cardigan on the front cover of the book and can't wait to wear it!

I've just picked up crocheting again - though had to remind myself of the basic stitches. My friend just started chemo on Friday and asked me to crochet a couple of hats for her - so if there ever was inspirartion for me to start crochetin again that was it!

There's a great site that I've recently found which has loads of great knitting and crochet patterns

Hey Angi, I seem to remember there actually being a crochet book called chemo caps and shawls or something (I remember it as one of my friends is also having chemo at the moment:))

I have just learnt to crochet this weekend and have been making a hat for my little girl. Have downloaded a few patterns so got things to try out. I love it. I also make jewellery but can only make stuff when the kids are in bed but this I can do anytime. :)

I have always wanted to try this one out and I hear that it's very different from knitting. My auntie has shown me how to hold the hook and yarn and to do a chain stitch. I had a go but it's all to do with tension and I guess that it will take me some practice.

Looked in the book shop the other week and found a great little book that shows you how to do it all. I even have bought all of the hook sizes in bamboo off Ebay. Just got to put all the bits and pieces together now and get on with it.

Just started to learn today, used to do it as a kid but could only do chain so ended up with yards of very thin crochet and didn't know what to do with it! My mum's lent me an elderly crochet magazine, had a good laugh at the gent's crochet sweater and sailor's cap but it's great for learning the basics, but the patterns are a little old fashioned and not something I'd really wear, with the exception of a dress that looks horrifically difficult, but I'm on the lookout for more modern but simple designs if anyone knows of any?

I learnt last Xmas with the intention of making a Xmas stocking but didn't realise how complex it was. I made two scarves instead. I haven't done any since but I tried knitting a few weeks after and I much prefer crochet. I've bought a few books on it now and there's an American lady on YouTube who does very good tutorials (crochet for beginners I think it's called). I'll do some more when ive got a bit more time. Currently my toddler runs off with my wool :)

This is a bumped up thread from 2007 but i am going to chime in anyway - have any of you ever done anything with the Afghan Stitch - also known as Tunisian crochet? It is great for embroidering a design on after completing a scarf or throw....it's a really fast stitch and fun - I usually use a 9.0mm afghan hook - and here's a site that shows how to do cross stitch on it...

Hey!

Well, to be frank, crochet scares the poop out of me - I have no idea why. I'm a fairly advanced knitter and everyone has been saying to me that crochet is easier (is this true?) but there's something about it that makes me scared. Stupid me! Maybe it the fact that you use hooks?!

I'd like to learn because I like the fact you can make little circles and doilies and things very easily and that's not the most straightforward to do with knitting.

i decided one day that i would learn to crochet, i asked my mam and tried but couldn't get it, so i asked my mother in law and still couldn't pick it up. so i left it for a bit, then decided to google it, found a great website and followed the instructions from there. i've not done anything really fancy, just things that i could do whilst watching tv. but i love it, the only thing is i tend to get a really bad wrist after a while. i thought that it was a 'middle aged, old woman's thing' to do, but once i got compliments about my scarf i made and two requests.... then i wasn't so shy to say 'yes i crocheted it'

My mum loves to crochet, I was planning on getting her a book or magazine of projects for mother's day. She's broken her foot and been feeling very down lately as can hardly use her crutches, so she's been having to sit at home. I thought I'd try to get her something to keep her busy. Can anybody recommend book/magazine wool etc? She enjoys doing items of clothing. x
