I have decided to have a go at making a watch but have no idea how to do it! Can anyone give me some step by step instructions or suggest a good book which goes through this? Also, what materials do I need? I was thinking of doing something with swarovski crystals and incorpertaing what I think are called sliders or links??? Help! - and thank you in advance!

I thought about this too, after seeing some of the beaded ones in the links posted in another thread.

I did a quick google and came up with these:

http://jewelry.about.com/od/watches/tp/beaded_watch.htm
http://www.beadedroyalty.com/beaded-bracelet-watch.htm

Hopefully this will get you going with some ideas.

It really isn't as easy as it sounds.;) If you're using Swarovskis don't forget to make sure they aren't rubbing against each other, if you're using spacer bars (sliders), you have to crimp fairly frequently to make sure the design stays square and doesn't twist, finally, make sure you use thick enough stringing material to stand the sharp edges of the crystal, but flexible enough to shape to your wrist. Oh, and you will always make it too long the first time - allow at least 1" for the clasp! That's why not many of us make watch straps! :D :D :D

I've made watches with sliders and elastic and have had no problems as yet with them. It is hard to get the length right though but they do look lovely and unusually.

I've made watches with bead weaved bands too, a little trial and error there too mind.

There is a book you can get with quite a few suggestions for beaded watch straps, I'll try and find you a link to it.
