I am on the look out for a software package that will get me away from my spreadsheet and help me do my accounts far more easy without having to go back and forth on the spreadsheet and put receipts in date order.
Can anybody recommend one please. I think my budget will stretch to about £50'ish!
thanks.

We use http://www.kashflow.co.uk/
It is very versatile, our accountant likes it.
You can raise invoices on it, export to excel, raise orders to your suppliers etc.
they do have a free trial period

Have you tried Accountz (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Business-Accountz-Basic-Mac-Linux/dp/B001CG0O3O/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s=officeproduct&qid=1269335202&sr=8-7) very good.

I looked at that one as well Caroline and its on my list to do more research. I was not sure if it was a bit too much for what I needed or can you convert it in anyway you want?

Some of it I don't use but the auto invoicing and posting is very good and the help line, in the UK, is handy as well. I think with any accounts software as a small business you will get elements you don't use but you can just ignore them or phase out when you set up.
I was looking around the same as you and found they all had too many facilities, and were too involved for a one man band operation. In the end I settled up using this (http://www.diyaccounting.co.uk/basic.htm). It is cheap, does everything I need, and it's easy. (Which is a great bonus for me!) Then all your tax details are set up for you as well.
You can also get a version if you are VAT registered and it is only a quid more. You need to buy a new set each year, but I think it is a small price for something so easy to use, and help is on the end of a phone/email.

Thanks for the link Tam
Think I'll give it a go. is it really that easy to use? I'm not the best when it comes to book keeping.
Hi Hils.
All it is, is a set of spreadsheets. When you buy it you get a download location. You download the spreadsheets, then download the instructions as well. I read through them in an evening, and have only checked back on them a couple of times. I haven't a clue about spreadsheets, and you don't need to, these are all set up for you with the codes and so on for the coming tax year and all you do is fill them in with your incomings and outgoings.
The most laborious thing I find is keeping all my receipts/invoices in order. 'er indoors helps a lot so often I don't even have to do that.
All in all a very simple way to keep your accounts IMO.
