Don't know about you but I just NEVER have time for any housework! Having 2 children aswell doesn't help but whenever I get a few minutes to my self I am either sewing, at the computer sourcing fabric/zips or on this darn forum. Housework seems to be way down my list of priorities? Anyone agree?:o

I agree but thats mainly because im very lazy and I think housework should be low down the list anyway.

Very little time for housework....it does get done, but I don't know how. Would you like to here my little rhyme about it? Well I write it just in case.

"I hope my children look back one day,
And see a parent who had time to play.

There will be years for cleaning and cooking,
but children grow up when your not looking.
So....quiet down cobwebs
..........dust go to sleep,
I'm rocking my baby, and babies don't keep.

Author unknown"

I think about this rhyme quiet often, but really I should spend less time on this forum too.

Lately i've either been working, seeing to my three kids, thinking about making some cards or sitting looking at my computer, whilst doing this i'm looking at the house thinking what a mess i wish somebody would tidy up this pig sty, then realise thats my job aswell. I'm glad i'm not the only one with a messy house!

I know I shouldnt comment as Im not really classed as a grown up and I have a room that I hate to tidy, but I was surprised to hear that tidying up is 'your job'.

No its not.
Its a chore that should be shared. Please dont ware yourself out, share the work.I seriously doubt it was you that made all the mess in the house!

...but also very lucky.

Where I make a mess, Himself will tidy up behind me. He's much better at chores than I am, and will do them willingly. We both work from home which is a major plus...permanent flexitime.

I do my bit though. I get the eeewwwww jobs, like my arm around the U-bend. I get to pick up after the cats too, but that's because Himself has asthma and the catlitter dust is a total no-no.

We both cook. Who ever cooks doesn't clean the kitchen, but more often than not we both cook and both clear up, although all of my children will rinse & stack the dishwasher.

Neither of us go near the kids' rooms. We just close the door....I used to nag constantly, but decided life was too short. They aren't too bad at tidying. The daughter will get so frustrated with her mess that every once in a while she goes berserk and it's left looking spectacularly tidy. Just never, ever open her wardrobe.....;)

I read the title and my response is ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ROFL!!!!!!! I think I have the untidiest house in the world. My friend has a very clean house - mops the floors every day kind of house and she despairs when she comes to mine! Mr Swirl was reading some tax thingy somewhere and he mentioned out loud (he later realised that he shouldn't have!) that if you are working from home then there is some allowance for you to get a cleaner. Or if you get a cleaner then you get a tax break or something. I'll email him and ask!!

....I'd need to clean BEFORE the cleaner came! LMAO.....:mf:

My mother used to do that. For years she said she'd love some help, and then one day when they were a bit better off, my Dad said go for it, so my Mum found Mrs Facey.

After a while the cleaner took her to one side and said she wasn't coming any more and Ma was mortified, asked if the house was too dirty. No, said Mrs Facey, house is TOO clean, I've nothing to do!

Ow a cleaner - that would be a dream come true but alas alack no such luck.

I clean up a bit as I go along but with 2 kids, a full time job, a very messy craft and a very untidy husband the house usually looks like a tornado has hit. Particularly at the moment with the craft fair season upon us again.

I make a really special effort when people are coming round!!! and I am lucky enough that my son is old enough now to pick up a duster and use the hoover!!

I emailed Matt and helpfully he couldn't remember where he had read the thing about the cleaner. I think it was in the Guardian so I'll have a lookie at some stage.

I'm trying to be good today. As i was up at 6:30 i have washed up from last night, made up baby milk bottles, put a load of washing on, picked up all the toys scattered through the house, cleaned the bathroom and mopped the kitchen floor so now i'm having a cuppa coffee before round 2 starts. The best thing i find for motivation (now don't laugh) is putting the new Rocky Balboa album on, it just makes you want to get up and do something.

This thread made me laugh..I am so pleased that I am not alone! My OH is always complaining about tidying up.. but I don't like interrupting my crafting to do such mundane tasks!!
Very interested to hear about tax breaks for cleaners!

I like that plaque Molly! I scared myself today as I washed some windows :o :o :o Poor Tara didn't know what was happening as Mummy was up with a cloth in her hand - she's not seen it much despite being 9 months old!!

Well, I don't have any kids, so it's a bit easy for me I guess. But I do love a clean and tidy flat so what I do is once I get up and my partner goes off to work, I concentrate on getting the household jobs done before I sit down to do my cards and stuff, else it would just bother me if I didn't clean.

It bothers my friend too but I can just glance over it - which is lucky I suppose! My friend came round for lunch yesterday and when I went back into the kitchen she was sweeping the floor for me :o Didn't make me feel bad though!!

....looks like the municipal tip. BUT....I know where everything is.

As long as the kitchen is tidy (I can't come downstairs and start to work in a midden) and the livingroom is not too bad, then I don't mind. What really bugs me, is spending time tidying and thirty seconds later the place looks like a sty.

Weekends are the worst. I'm usually up by 8am and I'll go downstairs, have a quick tidy, open the curtains etc then make my coffee, head back to my workroom and check the e-post.

If I go back downstairs half an hour later for a refill, the place looks like the proverbial bomb site. This means I have to do my Billingsgate fishwife impersonation and scream at everyone. I hate shouting, but it does work. Usually it galavanises Himself into action with the hoover etc ;)

It's the general slob factor that gets me - the boys will go out to the kitchen to get a drink, but it doesn't occur to them to take their breakfast stuff out at the same time...that kind of thing.

.....and don't get me started on changing the empty toilet roll

Inspired by Jule's tale of untidy craft rooms I thought I would share mine. Be nice - it is a 'creative' room!! :sm:

I've just come across this thread and just had to take a look. I have to admit I'm monica off friends I have to have a clean and organized house ( the only thing that is organized) #i've just moved my crafts into the small bedroom, sorry to say thats as tidy as the rest of the house thats probably why i don't get to much crafting done. It will have to change as I want to make a business out of my crafts.

Crafting forever, housework whenever, or never!!!!!

The only thing i hate is a messy kitchen so we both keep that relitivley clean and tidy, the rest of the downstairs gets done when we cant see mantle piece anymore, although we do hoover every day because we have a golden retreiver and he is moulting.

We have a constant battle with the kids to put their dirty pots in the dishwasher and their dirty clothes in the basket.

I am sure my kids usedto have carpets in their bedrooms but know im not so sure because they completly cover there floors in clothes, obviously to protect their tootsies from the cold!!!! its a good excuse for me not to do any ironing as they just chuck everything on the floor anyway!!!!

Wow Jules, now thats what a call a craft room - messy or not, it's huge. I work in the corner of my conservatory on the dining table. I was thinking of converting my attic into a bedroom for my boy so i could have his small bedroom (it's about 6'7 x 7'6), looked into it but it's way to expensive.

.....under that lot, and it's ten times messier now, is our spare bed.

I need to find it because my mother is arriving on Thursday to help out with the Cheddar Fair. And she'll need somewhere to sleep.

Only, by Sunday, fingers crossed, my workroom should ( ha ha) be full of newly made stock for me to sell at said craft fair......

Ages ago, I cut out loads of pieces to assemble tote/book bags. I can only find half of them, and I have no idea which fabrics I was putting with which either. It was so long ago, I've forgotten...

So annoying....

Jules
