So, what book/books are you reading?

I love reading but don't get much time for it at the moment. I just wondered what people are reading - thought it might give us all some tips for books that are good! I've just finished 'We Need to Talk About Kevin' by Lionel Shriver - a bit of a scary read if you've got kids and I'm reading 'The Black Dahlia' by James Ellroy at the moment.
I'm also looking through some craft books that my sister got me in the library sale - one is about fairy tale quilts - I feel I may have to make one for the gilrs at some stage!

Promised myself last year I would read Dracula as I was confused by the different accounts of it through films and drama's.
So, I bought it and have got up to the bit were Lucy has died.Havnt read it for a while actually, must get back into it.

I am reading "Off Minor" by John Harvey - a murder one.

I get called a bit of a ghoul because I love Stephen King, James Herbert and Deen R Kontz (all horror) not many of their books I haven't read.

Don't get much reading done with working and crafting but when I get a minute I will read.

I used to looooooove Dean R Koontz, especially Slugs and Servants of the Twilight!

I like Stephen King and Dean Koontz too - didn't he do one about a house? I remember it being really good. If you like crime/horror and all that then try Tess Gerritsen - really good. I've just read Cell by Stephen King too - all this time lazing by the pool in Goa! - and I can recommend that too.
I've not read Dracula - must do at some stage but I read Frankenstein and loved that.

I read Frankenstein by Mary Shelley and loved it too - can't beat the originals. Is it Anne Rice's interview with a Vampire thing you are reading. I couldn't get into that.

If you like a good sob try 'The Lovely Bones'. Excellent but very sad!!
or 'The Time Travellers Wife' if you don't mind a bit of weirdness, also a good sob.
Don't know why I like a good cry with a book - not depressing stuff,just touching. I'd rather be emotionally engaged than scared I suppose. Dracula is ace though.

I've just finished reading The man in the iron mask. It was ok but not really my thing. So now I'm reading "The making of Minty Malone" it's chick lit so is easy reading, just what I need right now.

My favourite books are the Thursday Next books by Jasper Fforde. They are so off the wall. I guess they match my personality!

Next on the list is Smashed - Growing up a Drunk Girl by Koren Zailckas which i got on ebay the other day, and i really want to read The Girls (can't remember who wrote it) about the conjoined twins. Has anyone read that?
I read The Time Travellers Wife and the Lovely Bones which were both fab

.....I need to read at night, it's how I wind down. So lightweight books are better for late night reading. You can't move in our house for books, there are bookshelves in every room, and even in the halls and landing. We never throw books away, but we're always buying more.

Lately I've read mostly chick-lit, but also a very gentle book by Mark Wallington. I loved his books about Boogie.

I'm also making my way through Arthur Ransome's books with Sam, who has the perfect imagination for those books. Picts and Martyrs is our current favourite.

One of my favourite authors is Raffaella Barker...her books have me in stitches. I can relate to the chaos in her house. Another good writer is Andrea Camilleri, I love his books about Salvo Montalbano. And Terry Pratchett....I live for the day his new book comes out, even the children's books he writes are worthy of an adult audience.

I love the Time Travelers Wife - fantastic book. I am trying to persuade hubby to read it but we will see. I've never read any Terry Prachett but I think I would like them. Has anyone ever read His Dark Materials Trilogy by Philip Pullman (Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass)? They are fantastic and I reread them twice a year or so!

I am so undecided whether or not to get it in July.

I loved the first four, the fifth one lost the plot....I think possibly because he was a stroppy teenager and I am a parent. Just wanted to clip him up side the ear - get a grip Harry, you're supposed to be a hero..thwack!

I liked number 6, but I've heard rumours that they get killed off, Harry, Ron & Hermione.....being a wuss, I'm not sure I could bear that. I like happy endings.

Himself will have to read it first, and reassure me ;)
