Does anyone know a good online source of felt? Had a look in hobbycraft but it is super expensive.

...I buy felt from eBay. This lady in Alford is very good, her felt is good quality, and she does nice colours. She posts very quickly if you pay by paypal too. I've bought stuff from her for more than a year now.

You can view the site in english! A 180cm by 20cm strip of wool felt works out at £5.50 roughly, not including shipping. I think for 100% wool felt, that's really good. And the colours are lovely!

but a pity that they don't show you the colours. I can guess what a lot of the colours are by the names, but not all.

:D I have 2 cheecky questions for the felt users of the group.
1. How do I tell what is wool felt?
2. what do you do with your small off cuts?

...to questions;

1. It says so on the label ;) , and you can tell by the look and feel of the felt. Wool felt is softer than acrylic and has a smoother, denser feel to it.
2. I don't have any off cuts, as I use tiny pieces for my things. The best thing about felt is that you can use it anyway up, so you can wiggle the shapes in to fit and not waste any.

I have beengiven a bag of felt and wasnt sure which it was. they are all pieces so no labels. :confused:

I have been making tiny face brooches and was wondering if anyone had any little bits to trade.:)

....Looking at your free bits of felt, holding them near a light. Acrylic always has smooth shiney fibres. Wool fibres are more opaque.

Wool felt has a closer texture and feels smoother too - I'm sitting here comparing two pieces of felt, trying to see more differences:)

I agree, you can usually feel the difference (as above!). I give any larger off cuts to my SIL as she makes cards.

.....loads from USA & Myriad. Thought the postage was a bit steep for Myriad, but the felt is quite cheap, which makes up for it.

Watching for the postie every day now......:p

Hiya - did the felt from Myriad arrive yet? WHat was it like? I'm looking for a good felt supplier with a different range of colours. Am off to the US at the weekend and shall be scouring all the craft shops there for different felt. Any suggestions for good craft shops in the US? I know of Michael's and Jo-ann fabrics, but don't know if there are any others that might be worth a look?

Also, I managed to get a sort of duck egg shade....it's the light sea blue. But all the shades I've bought are lovely!:)

The first order was held up whilst they waited for colours, but they were very good and sent me two free sheets of felt to make up for the delay.

I saw this company at a trade fair I visited back in February. They've got an amazing range of colours, but their felt isn't 100% wool felt and so isn't very soft, but they're worth a look ! :)

...I love their felt. I've just made loads of Halloween appliques from it, to sew onto my children's aprons.

I'm going to have some at Stow tomorrow. This evening I'm going to carve a pumpkin (the design is a spooky cat) and also print out some Halloween cookie recipes to give away with the aprons.

I'll order loads more felt from Paper & String later on, for all my spring things. The colours are just gorgeous.
