Afternoon everyone

Ive been asked to make a birthday cake for a friends father in law. its his 70Th.

Has anyone any ideas of what design I could do.
I'm not an expert at cake decorating but I can usually come up with something that looks half way edible, I normally just do children's cakes with horses or footballers on them. I'm not sure what would be appropriate for a 70 year old man.

The other thing is how much do I charge. My friend is insisting that I charge her the going rate but I have no Idea how much that is.

Any ideas would be gratefully received

Thanks

Sharon

Debbie Brown has a book called Cakes for men (your local library might have a copy http://www.debbiebrownscakes.co.uk/index.htm), from memory there's a man sitting in an armchair which might be appropriate but then again if he likes football then you could use your footballers

How about a bottle of champagne cake?

Here are some inspirational ideas

What are his hobbies? Fishing, reading etc? Find out and make something appropriate. Alternatively, do a naked lady cake! When I used to make cakes for people, that was a favourite with all ages. I first saw it in the Jane Asher book but basically, it's any shape cake with marzipan or fondant naked ladies all over it.

I may go with the champagne Idea. He doesnt have any hobbies and I dont think his wife would like the naked lady cake ( although I think he would) she is what you would call a bit prude to say the least.
Any way thanks for the ideas and i will keep looking im sure something will turn up
