hello everyone!

I am very interested in having a go at making fused glass jewellery.
My other half has an enamelling kiln which he hasn't used for years - would this be okay to fuse glass in (ie would the temperatures be right?). Also, I have seen wee kilns that you can use in your microwave - has anyone tried these and what are the results like?

Many thanks in advance for any advice,
Ruth

Hi Ruth!(welcome)

I started off with an enamelling kiln (one of the Efco ones), and I got a few small pieces of jewellery out of it that weren't too bad, but to be honest, I found it very difficult to use as it only had a very basic on-off controller and pyrometer, so it was really hard to judge temperatures and hold times. It might be worth having a go though if you've already got one lying around, at least you can see whether it's something you'll enjoy before spending any more money on it (although I'm pretty sure you'll soon be hooked!)

I've never tried the microwave kilns, so I'm not sure how good the results would be in those.
