Help needed. Without spending £100's on advertising and getting it all wrong, can anyone recommend a good advertising place without it costing the earth. As you can see i've already got an ad on here and the other places are just the free ones.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Advertise on directories like ours ;)
www.ukcraftwebsites.co.uk
And of course:
www.links-directory.co.uk
If I told you all the special place to advertise i'd be out of a job.. hehehe ..
Adwords is really good and cheap, should be a link @ the bottom of the page..
Adwords lets you run ROI (return on investment) e.g. you spend £10 which makes you a £100 etc...
If you can try thing for 1 month see how it goes.. If its cheap enough then keep its going.. e.g. the ad on this forum is £15 and the directory is £5.50 a month so how much would you have to sell to cover those cost ?

Thanks for that. It's just when i'm looking for places i seem to come accross the same thing over and over. I have tried adwords (£30 per month budget) my whole budget went within one week although every time i looked i could never see my ad in the sponsored links so thats on pause till next month. Marketing and advertising is my weak spot, i just don't know enough about them, the only thing i know about business is the accounts side of it as thats my day job.

Have you got a blog? It's a bit of a slower way, but if you do have a blog, look around for other craft blogs, read a few and when you find a post that interests you, post a relevant comment. Include a link back to your blog, and gradually you start to get some visitors.
I know it's not a quick fix, but it's free!
For a while I sold some stuff on eBay and included a link back to my site in the profile, their rules don't allow a direct link in the ad listing, but they do allow a link to your eBay profile.
You could also join web rings.
Just a few musings.

Now a blog sounds technical to me, but i might try selling a few things on ebay and when/if they sell i could send out a flyer with all my details on it togther with a special offer or two to real them in. Worth a try.
Thanks.

ETSY is cheaper than E-BAY. It's growing fast.

I've sold some cards on ebay and whenever I get a sale I put a leaflet advertising my website in the package so hopefully they will have a look at my site. You could try it and see if it works. I too am having trouble getting people to my site.....and without the money it's hard to advertise, but we will get there.

What’s with adwords? I’d also like to know where the best place to advertise is? So far I get box sizes or weekly, monthly £’s and I’m not sure if that will actually get out to the right people and enough people at that.
I'm I getting it all wrong? Can anyone help ?

You are a star.
I think I have a splash cover too. But I made up the site myself and just followed the guidelines - should I take it off? I think I was to add it to set the sort of tone of the rest of the site? Can't remember.
Cheers.

Ask yourself: "Is it of any use ? "
The number of clicks to see a item / buy is so important..
People as lazy and don't wish to be taken around the houses to find/buy an item..

You could also join web rings.
I'd keep well away from web rings.. The amount of traffic you get from vs the negative effect it has is not worth it imho!

Excuse my ignorance but what is a web ring. I have heard of them but have no idea what they are. As I am not the most experienced person on the web I stear clear of things that I don't know about.
Cheers Mr Media

A webring in general is a collection of websites from around the Internet joined together in a circular structure. When used to improve search engine rankings, webrings can be considered a search engine optimization technique.
More info here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_ring
Web rings are like link farms..
Here's a description of a link farm..
On the World Wide Web, a link farm is any group of web pages that all hyperlink to every other page in the group. Although some link farms can be created by hand, most are created through automated programs and services. A link farm is a form of spamming the index of a search engine (sometimes called spamexing or spamdexing). Other link exchange systems are designed to allow individual websites to selectively exchange links with other relevant websites and are not considered a form of spamdexing.
More info on links farm here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Link_farm
Some web rings are ok but imho its not worth it..
FFA (free for all) have nothing to stop the bad mixing with the good..
Association is everything in the internet game..
In regards to the search engines... You can only control your content on your site which includes who you link to ..
Links are votes.. who you link to says everything..
As a link is a vote then you need to be in control of them which "web rings" and alike remove that control.. Web rings and alike save you time!
Hope that make sense..

Thanks for that. I don't like the idea of not having control over my web site. It's my baby after all. Had my suspicions but thanks for clearing that up.
All the best.
