Hi everyone
I have made perhaps the worst decision but i have plenty of time to practice
My daughter is 10 at the end of March, so being a bit special (double figures and all that!) i am doing her a cupcaked themed birthday party, without her knowledge! oh heck
I have found and hoping to find somewhere that will rent a giant cupcake cake tin. cupcakes etc are easy enough
What i want to know is cupcake food! I have already thought about buying a cupcake cutter and cutting sandwiches to cupcake shapes and pizza! ok now i am stuck
I know i am not going to be able to do everything cupcake shaped, i think i may ask hubby to make some cheese straw type things shapes as cupcakes.
Does anyone have any ideas what i can do?
Already sorted out party bags (which will contain a special cupcake, keyring embroidered with a cupcake and childs name, fabric covered notebook with either cupcake fabric or a felt cupcake on the front)
Also does anyone know where i can rent the pan out, cant really afford to pay £30 for a pan that i may only use once lol
Many thanks in advance
Sarah

Have you tried your locl cake decorating shops for the cupcake pan - most of them hire tins.

hmm,
what about cooking bread dough in cupcake cases for rolls,
having an icing cupcake competiton or games (could get messy with 10 yrs olds but sounds fun)
or serving food in cupcake cases (silicone) like cooking lasagne in one??
will think more ;)

The latest idea seems to be individual cupcakes on a round plate or tiered stand rather than a big cake. You can usually get cupcake stands on ebay for under a tenner. Otherwise to make a large cupcake you could cook one round cake and cut the sides into a slope afterwards and then another cake cooked in a round pyrex mixing bowl to upend on top to make the dome. Then ice the top like a cupcake.
Small cakes can also be cooked in the ice-cream cones called 'kiddie cups' - they have a flat bottom and can be stood in a muffin or fairy cake tin. Just make up the sponge mixture as usual and fill up about 2/3 of the way up.

Thanks for the ideas
the reason i wanted to do a giant cupcake as her main cake was because her birthday party will be on the sunday before her birthday, so didnt want to cut into it until her actual birthday, so the little ones can be given out with her party bags
believe it or not having searched for the last 2 hours i cant find cupcake paper plates! found napkins lol

I think that plain paper plates will be fine with the cupcake napkins.
How artistic are you? You could buy some food grade felt tip pens (from an cake decorating shop) and draw cupcakes onto the paper plates. Actually, normal felt tip pens would probably be ok - after all they are non toxic. ;)

Hi
After searching for hours yesterday and this morning, i think i will be going with pale pink plates
Have found some super card placement holders that i think would be good to put in the party bags as photo holders :D
Slowly coming together
Have a cupcake font that i am going to digitize and use on the bunting
Getting excited about it, just trying hard not to let it slip to her at the moment lol

Have you sorted out activities for them?
Not sure what your plans are but some ideas:
small canvases with a cupcake outlined on them - painting shouldn't be too traumatic with 10 year olds.
pass the parcel with cupcake-themed prizes
pin the cherry on the cupcake
musical chairs - one chair has a cupcake cushion/blanket/picture and the person who gets that chair each time gets a mini prize
Have fun!!!:)

If you could cope with the stress and the mess, how about letting the little darlings decorate the cupcakes themselves

ohh ohh....what about savoury muffins? With cream cheese topping and chives, bacon bits etc for sprinkles?

There was an article in my local paper about a lady who is hiring out unsusual shaped cake tins, maybe you could find someone like that in your area..(or start up your own business doing that!) ;)
