So here is my new dress. A linen pink and lilac flowered fabric with vintage buttons.

But I'm two minds about if I should embellish it. I love the simplicity of the style combined with the fabric, but I'm umming and ahhing about putting some seed beads along the bottom line of the yoke. I did think about making some lilac fabric flowers with my new yoyo maker, but they kind of intrude into the button 'space'.

Anyone any ideas for me? Plain or embellished?

I'm sewing a reversable sun hat to match too, so could match the detail onto the hat. Or I could leave any detail soley on the hat. hmmm typical libra!

Don't know how well you would see the seed beads against the material. I love the idea of embellishing the hat. As usual the finished article is great. Well done

Beautiful dress.

Personally, I don't think it needs anything else so I would leave it as it is without embellishments.

i agree with alicat, I think it's lovely as it is and doesn't need any seed beads, if the material were plainer then I would say embelish but the material is lovely and doesn't need anthing else IMO

I agree with everyone else, best left as it is. As an alternative another time you could pipe in white at the bottome of the yoke emphazising the shape but it is not necessary.

I think you have made a beautiful dress in my opinion it does'nt need the beads

personally I try to steer clear of using things like beads on younger childrens clothing because they tend to eat them!

Thank you all for your kind comments :D, I think I'm with you all on no embellishments. (swayed the libra!)

I will pop some of my pretty flowers onto a brooch bar for the hat.

I was going to make this up in a plain blue cotton which is embroidered with blue flowers, a bit more subtle fabric, so think I will embellish that one. Will see how it goes along.

Thank you
Krysia

Thats a gorgeous dress - i too am uneasy about beads around children. What about using a fabric flower as an embellishment? that might look quite nice but hey Im no seamstress!! :mf:

I brought a flower yoyo maker the other day and quite like that effect, but will do a few and pop them together on a brooch bar for the hat, but leave the dress plain me thinks.

Glad you like.

I was going to suggest making a brooch/detachable embellishment for the dress of maybe a colour coordinating flower with ribbons hanging behind it, add seed beads to the centre of the flower.

Less is more on this one. Its beautiful as it is. I think you can add more design with the hat, a flower or some beads to accentuate it more.

The dress sounds lovely - but i think some thing is a bit squiffy - all i can see is a candle shaped like a rolo? Random!

silly me - i normally remember to check the thread start date - but didn't this time. Don't know what the person before me was looking at though - perhaps they liked the rolo candle - maybe a sideline for you!!!
