Yay, it's here! Thanks Mr Media.
I make polymer clay beads and jewellery, but I also like to make little figures (they're very much just for fun though. No matter which animal I make, people always think it's a squirrel!)

Oh so glad to have a polymer clay section here.
Well - I sort of live, breathe, eat and sleep polymer clay. Well, I don't eat it - but if I could, I probably would!
I make beads, and sometimes jewellery too, primarily. I also write about polymer clay, time allowing and sell the clay and related tools and supplies from my online store too.

You don't? Really? Not even by, say, accident? (I found a piece in my cup if tea once ;) I only tasted it a moment, but it wasn't too bad)

Thank you Mr Media :)
I'm just starting out, I want to make some embellishments to go on my plaques and I wanted a go at something new.
I'm sticking to very simple and basic for now!! but hopefully effective too, just to add a little something to some of the plaques. I've put my 1st attempts on the craft projects threads
I'm bound to be on here loads asking loads of questions so sorry in advance.:D

I make cake toppers, all kinds of animals, jewelly (though not put any up for sale), door plaques, christmas tree ornaments, fridge magnets, beads, garden pots, and just about anything else I think of.
Great to have a polymer clay room :mf::mf:

If it's anything like most polymer clay rooms, it'll be covered in mica powder and glitter within the first day ;p

ROFL Scarily true.
Mr Man was annoyed with me one day about all the glitter and shouted "can't you keep that hippie dust of yours under control?"
And he didn't realise why I just fell over laughing.

Much depends on what type of work you want to do really.
A modeller would have a very different basic tool kit from someone who makes beads and jewellery for example.
I have started another thread in this section though, just listing what I think is really useful to start out if you want to make beads and jewellery.
Hopefully others will add to the thread with their lists of "must-have" tools too!

I'm really glad you suggested this Emma, think it's just what the forum needed.
As a complete newbie to polymer clay I will watch these threads with interest,
Thanks

Hi, I've used neutral coloured polmer for a while and painted it. (Couldn't find beads to buy that were big and bold enough, so tried to make them instead). But I am entirely new to using coloured polymer clay, and I feel like I am starting all over again - all those new fiddly techniques, and my hands feel so big and clumsy..... Hopefully, things will get better......:o
PS. Yes, THANKS Mr M! :)

What a great idea! I've just got into making polymer clay beads and pendants for jewellery. I love it and the OH bought me loads for Christmas.
I'm going to upload some of the stuff I've made to my website this weekend and will post some piccies when I do.

Thanks Mr M for the new section.
I mostly make beads & jewellery, although have attemptd the occasional model, but judging by how they turned out, I'm gonna stick with the beads;)

I'm so excited to see this new Polymer Clay thread.. a little world of our own!
I make beads and other stuff... like Christmas decorations, Easter baskets and small animals etc. and my 7 year old son sits eagerly alongside me making his fab stuff too whenever he can! I must admit I like to find time on my own to get designing and experimenting at my own pace.
Onwards and upwards! :D

Hooray for the new polymer clay section. Thanks for setting it up :)
I've just started making stuff from clay (although I do remember discovering Fimo when it came out and making rings and stuff and selling them to friends at school!)
I'm making cute little charms from Premo Sculpey now - some stuff modelled, some stuff molded in molds made from my own models. It's great fun - apart from picking out stray fluff and fibres in the clay, which is starting to make me go insane! Somebody must have a tip about how to stop that?! I honestly don't know where it appears from :D
Look forward to seeing what everyone is making. I should have some photos I can upload soon too.

The fluff bunnies are a perpetual pain to the polymer clay artist.
If you are sanding your work after, it isn't too much of a bother. I like to keep a roll of masking tape around and just use a bit of a tape to gently lift off any hairs. Its quite fun, I get to pretend I am a forensics person looking for incriminating fibres :mf:
Most of the little fibres in my experience come from my hands. When I was doing the photoshoots for the books, I would wash my hands prior to the close-ups and let my hands air-dry rather than using a towel. Made a HUGE difference to the amount of rogue fibres about the place. It helped that we were shooting back in those really hot summers a few years ago, so my hands would be dry in seconds anyway. Wouldn't fancy doing that now, I doubt my hands would dry before April at this rate.
Oh and just as an interesting bit of trivia, Fimo has been around in one form or another since the 1930s, so you probably remember one of its re-launches (like when it was sold to Eberhard in the 1960s) or its many marketing drives over the years since. It has the longest pedigree of any of the polymer clays.

Great to see a polymer clay section.
I've started by nicking the kid's clay a few years ago and am hooked. Getting very excited at the moment about going to France for some workshops in March. Only downside is having to make 70 ATCs which is rather time consuming - although my youngest (9) is helping out!

I got so excited when I saw this new section!! :mf:
I make cheeky animal characters and have done since I was given some Fimo for xmas when I was 11!
I make models, earrings, greetings cards, magnets, beads/charms/pendants and letters for my website and lots of other bits and pieces which I usually give away to friends and family.
I've recently rekindled my passion for poly clay and seem to spend more time 'playing' and experimenting than I do making what I should be for my website!
love it! :D
