Anyone ever brought beads from holiday? Just wondering what countries have beads on their markets or whatever?
I'm going to Tunisia in the summer and am hoping that i can get some unusal beads.
I seem to have images in my head of little market stalls with sacks full of beads that you just take huge scoops from. Hoping that its not some sort of bead fantasy!!

Enjoy your holiday though!

Hi,
I've been to Tunisia, was lovely. Didn't see any beads in the markets though, just jewellery. Mind you, that was before I started making jewellery myself, so maybe I just missed it! Be prepared to haggle and to walk away if you don't get the price you want. A rep told us that the right price should be about a third of what they ask for.
Hope you enjoy it.

GeorgeBee,
I hope you are right with your idea of masses of beads for sale in Tunisia, I am off to Hammamet in August. However, previous experience tells me that we wont be bringing lots of little bags of beads back with us. I Turkey the year before last i bought several necklaces made of drilled polished gem stones and cut them up when i got home. I had paid about 60 pence each for very similar stone before we went out there, In Turkey i had paid about £3 for about 50 or 60 stones. Afew years ago i bought a cheap elesticated string of blue coral beads - i wear them a lot but really wish i had bought more to cut up at home.
Even if i dont see beads for sale in Tunisia i am sure i will buy jewellery to 'butcher' once i get home!

I am going to Hong Kong in October, with a local lass, she says she will take me into China to look for beads!
How cool is that?
Can't wait, apparently you can buy ANYTHING in HK, I am trying to resist the urge to buy anything new between now and October and just go over with hand luggage, come back with a suitcase!

I don't think I've come home from a holiday yet without beads! and I always take beads on hols with me too to make stuff with. I usually end up collecting shells and odd stones and making them into necklaces too, I always find hols to be a brill source of inspiration.
